Today I got a mat to put on the bunnys hutch floor, and they are trying to eat it. is there any house hold thing that I can put on it to stop them eating it (i.e food juice thye wont like or something, vinegar? )

Please help because they are eating it as I type this !

Lol, thanks :p:wave:

Can you take it out till you get some more replies other than my feeble advice? whats it made off? they may stop nibbling after they`ve inventigating it!?

I am not sure what you could put on it to keep them from eating it. What type of mat is it? Are they actually eating it or just ripping it up and dropping the pieces? There are some things I can't put in my rabbits cage because they will eat it. They always eat blankets but will leave carpet pieces alone. If they are eating the edges of the mat can you put toys along the edge so they will hopefully chew the toys and not the mat. Plus it will help hide the corners of the mat.

They are eating the sides and corners

It is like spongey, its kinda hard to explain
I will pick up something in town tomorrow for it

a few weeks ago I put like a cardboard hide away thing in, that I made with a cardboard box and they eat it.

Last night I used vinegar and they didnt touch it. They took a nibble or two but it seems to be ok!

cardboard is fun for them to chew on, no problem if they eat it as long as it's not the waxed kind.

Best mats to use are the cheap grass mats, that way you can let them chew on it and throw it away and get another one. I find they often do get bored with it sooner or later.

I just put a willow tunnel thing in with Darry and Mister, they went at it like there was no tomorrow -- for a good 10 minutes. Haven't touched it since!

It's ok for them to eat cardboard. They love to tear it. It's fun for them. :)

I always keep at least some cardboard boxes in my bunny areas for them destroy at their leasure. My bunnies used to live a two story NIC condo that I made them, and on the first floor I found a box that would just fit inside. I just cut 2 holes in it and put it in the condo. It would last a few weeks before they tore it to pieces. But that was it purpose, give them something to play with. I did the same with the grass mats idea. Untreated cardboard and grass mats are good cheap toys for bunnies to do with what they want. I just make sure that the cardboard is as plain as I can get it, not too much paint and coloring on it. God knows what goes into paint these days!?

Even now that my bunnies have 1/2 a room, I keep boxes in there for them shred.
