OK, they aren't really my kids, but my students have been with me for 3/4 of this school year and they FEEL like my own children at this point. :(

I was recruited and hired for a position at the county office as an Elementary Specialist working with challenged elementary schools (schools not meeting the goals set by the state and nation for No Child Left Behind). I also will be writing curriculum and learning schedules (what to teach when), along with training and various other duties they throw at me when they feel like it. It's a job I did before, but I did it with middle and high schools instead of the little ones.

So, now I have to break it to my own little ones and their parents that I am moving onward and upward. Next Friday is my last day.

help!

Dear Parents,

....fill in this place....

...oh, last time I did this job, I transitioned at the end of the year, and I was already out of the classroom coaching students... I didn't have to write a letter like this. :(

Dear Parents;

This is such a hard letter to write because I have enjoyed my time with your children so much, so it is with no small measure of regret I must tell you I have decided to take advantage of a career opportunity that will be taking me in a different direction after the current school term. I will not be returning to ___ .

NEW: I tried to make a difference in each child's life while teaching here, and my new position as an Elementary Specialist working with challenged elementary schools will be giving me a chance to make a difference in many children's lives. I could not pass this up.

I will miss my classroom immensely, and I can't thank you and your wonderful children enough for making my experiences here so rewarding.

Do you know who will be replacing you? If so, I'd ensure them that they're being left in good hands.

I wrote out a bunch of it, but forgot to take it home with me. If I have time tomorrow, I'll type it in here and let you guys pick it apart, add to it, etc.

when this happened at my kids school, it was always nice to be 'introduced' to the new teacher in the letter. then the newbie would write her own letter.

good luck!:bunnydance:

Congrats on the job :rose:I'm sure it is a wonderful oppurtunity. I can't help with the letter but wanted to give you hugs. It must not be easy... :)

Dear Parents,

In my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to experience education at all levels. I have taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. I've taught 6th grade world history, math, science and language arts. I was a school-based instructional coach and a district-level instructional coach. I also served as a high school reading coach. My classroom experiences have included multi-age, co-teaching and full inclusion.

Working with 3rd grade for the past 3 years has been very positive for me. The staff and students at Central Riverside feel like home and family to me.

Now a new opportunity has arisen. I was invited to screen for and have accepted a position as an Elementary Specialist for the district. In this position I will be working on curriculum and learning schedules for literacy, as well as working with selected turn-around schools, identified as those most in need of assistance in our district. I tried to make a difference in each child's life while teaching here, and my new position as an Elementary Specialist working with challenged elementary schools will be giving me a chance to make a difference in many children's lives. I could not pass this up.

I am grateful that I was afforded the opportunity to stay in Central Riverside with my current students until after the FCAT testing was completed for 3rd grade. I will be transitioning into my new position over the next week.

Mr. Caraway allowed me to participate in the selection process for the teacher who will be taking my place in the 3rd grade team at Central Riverside. This process narrowed our selection down to the most qualified individual. She demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the Reading and Writing Workshop model, as well as differentiated instruction and excellent classroom management techniques. Her knowledge of technology and differentiated instruction made me feel comfortable that I am leaving your children in very capable hands.

Your child's new teacher, Mrs. Schraeder, will join us every day next week, shadowing me and learning our classes' established rituals and routines. She is truly thrilled to complete the school year in our classroom.

We invite you to come in at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, March 17, to have a meet and greet with the new instructor. Mr. Caraway, Mrs. Bachelor, Ms. Esteves and Mrs. Schraeder will all be present to answer questions.

I will miss my classroom immensely, and I can't thank you and your wonderful children enough for making my experiences here so rewarding.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Bachelor

a very thoughtful letter - as a parent i would be pleased to get that! you have reassured them by being involved in the selection process, and telling them your successor will be learning all the class routines.
