Ok, so we're going to San Francisco in November, the 3rd. For one week. Me and Steve absolutely LOVE a band, called Jack's Mannequin (incidentally I was just about to post a thread about them, but that can wait now...). They're playing in San Francisco in November. On the second!!! :X:X:X Yeah, sooo gutted are we!

So, we've found a couple more dates that they're playing... One is in Denver- that looks pretty far on the map?!!!

The other is in Nevada- Sparks to be precise, which is near Reno I think. At least, it looks near on Multimap!

So, we're being quite crazy and considering the cost and possibility of travelling to either Denver- which would have to be by plane as apparently it's a 37-hour train ride LOL, or train to Sparks, Nevada, which is about 7 hours. Apparently there's no airport there! But, it would mean losing nearly 2 whole days in San Francisco!!:shock:

Actually, I've just discovered that Sparks seems pretty near to Reno and the airport there.... But not sure that it will be affordable.

So, basically, can anyone give me links to decent plane/train booking sites? So we can get a good idea of cost etc? Obviously we don't know any US sites...

Or, feel free to tell me we're crazy and shouldn't even be considering such an option! :p

Yep there still is! :D

I know it sounds crazy but they're not big over here at all, so it's sooo unlikely that we'll ever get a chance to see them over here, or get to go to America again any time soon!

But unless we find a cheap option, we can't do it....

i say do it this way i can get to Barney and not have to worry about going through you to get to him, lol!!!!!!!!! just kidding, i think you are nuts traveling all that way for a band, lol

Fran, the flight to San Francisco is actually about 13 hours I think!:shock::shock:

And other Fran, LOL! Umm, Barney will be kept under lock and key whilst I am away! :D

The journey time is ok for me. I'd travel 7 hours by train to see a band no problem. The main thing is it taking so much time out of our holiday in San Francisco. It's really such a big trip that we've been looking forward to for ages. If we could line up the times better so that we'd arrive late afternoon, and get some late-night train/plane back, that would be ok, but the train would have to leave at 9am, get there at 4pm, but then we wouldn't get back to San Francisco until 6pm the next night. We've not booked out hotel yet so it wouldn't cost us a whole lot more to stay the night wherever the gig is....

Argh, I don't think we'll actually do it. It just seems like so much effort! But I really, REALLY want to see them! :(

Grr, why can't they be big over here, so we can see them! Or why, oh WHY can't they change the San Francisco date, by just a day! Just one tiny day!

Lol...

sidestep.com is a good site, it checks all our discount websites for hotels/airfare.

I've driven 12+ hours to see a band before so I completely understand! Good luck!

OMG you guys!!

Thank you so much for those links!

I've found flights that leave San Francisco at around 4pm, arrive in Reno at 5pm-ish, and then leave Reno the next morning at 6.20am, arriving back in San Francisco at 7.20ish am! We'd be tired, and probably have to hang around the airport for a couple of hours, but we'd still have the whole of the next day in San Francisco, and we'd only really miss an afternoon there. OMG!! SO EXCITING!!

I've told Steve and he's at work at the moment but we're going to look at it properly later. We'd get to see a bit more of America too! :D

Oh, my Dad has just popped up on MSN and told me that apparently I've already been to Reno, LOL. When I was 5, we went to Boise, Idaho for 3 months while my Dad was working there. Apparently we drove through Reno and stopped there on our way to San Francisco. I have no memory of it! :)

Wooooo! I'm all excited now it seems slightly possible!! :biggrin2:
