Help me identify new bunnies breed ....

Hello,

We rescued 2 sister bunnies (Bella the gingery one and Poppy the Agouti) off a lady who didn't seem to know much about them. They're approx 18months old. Can you help me identify the breed ?

They're mixed breeds. The more orange looking one might be a new zealand cross (that uniform reddish color is most commonly seen in new zealands. Look up "new zealand red rabbit" to compare). If they're sisters, you might call them both new zealand crosses. With rabbits it's harder to tell breed than, say, dogs. Most breeds don't have too unique of a structure and are genetically similar - breed traits are usually lost within one or two generations. Even then, the vast majority of rabbits out there are mixed breeds

Thanks for your reply - really interesting. I'd be glad to see pics of other NZ cross' if anyone else out there has some. They were very skittish when we first got them as they'd been kept inside of a small cage in a flat but they're really chilled out now and getting used to us.

They weigh 5.5lb plus/minus....
