I put a red tablecloth on our lovely cream-colored coffee table... Well whatcha think happened? :(I hadn't washed it beforehand. It never crossed my mind. The edges are red. It's a very expensive table and I really want to fix it.

It's painted though so I have to be careful what we use on it...

Help please?

I'm going to try with an eraser and putting whitening toothpaste on after. I really don't know what else to do.

Hey Nela do you have those Magic Erasers made I think by Mr Clean (or the people who make Mr Clean)?

Honestly they take every mark off I've ever tried to clean.

Let me know I can send you one tomorrow.

Susan:)

Lol it would come out to 78.29$. :expressionlessSurely it must be much much cheaper than that? I do remember commercials in Montreal... Bah! Well if you think it might work, I'm willing to try it. Do you think we can arrange something to get one here, Susan? :)I'd really appreciate it.

Magic erasers are great at removing marks but they do take off paint so you have to be careful when using them on painted surfaces. We learned this the hard way when I tried to take off a mark left by a chair on the wall. The magic eraser rubbed off the finish of the paint and left a dull spot. This can also happen if you scrub your hardwood floors to remove scuff marks :p Removed the finish off the floor when I tried to clean those.

Something Magic erasers are great at is cleaning leather. My brother manages 2 carwashes and they use magic erasers to clean all the leather and vinyl in the cars. We also use it to clean our cream leather couch at home and it works great!

Have you tried any cleaning products on it? Remember to test everything on a part of the paint you can't see to make sure it wont' wreck it first.

Think that price is off a little--should be around 2 pounds or less based on what they cost here. Like all things cleaning, a lite cleaning is best so you don't go thru the paint. One thought would be to call a restoration place and see if they could give you a recommendation on how to clean the red off the paint. If it's only a surface stain your not too bad off. If it has penetrated too deeply you're looking at trying to make it all match or refinishing.

Thanks everyone. Trying whitening toothpaste right now... :(It so sucks... The eraser did help some but, unfortunately, I don't have a proper eraser. I really hope we can figure it out without it costing a lot. It's an expensive table. :expressionlessAnd new. Bleh. I was thinking we could call the store and ask them for advice. Maybe they'd have an idea. Maybe our painter friend would too. No idea... :?I did learn a valuable lesson though. Always wash things before using them - and avoid red. :p

Thoese erasers cost next to nothing here. Let me know and I send you one. They weigh next to nothing a either.

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately, we haven't got any erasers (not normal ones nor Mr Clean ones - though we will be able to try those soon) and we don't have rubbing alcohol either. Sooooooooo we'll be getting those things and try everything. :)The toothpaste didn't work... :expressionless

I just wanted to let you know that a combination of a normal eraser and the magic eraser (a huge thanks to Susan) has been working. We do need to be careful with the magic eraser but so far it seems to be getting all the red out. :biggrin2:

Thanks everyone for your help!!!
