So recently I was given a small breed rabbit (most likely part Netherland dwarf) who was found abandoned in a neighborhood. I put her in her own double level rabbit hutch. She escaped about a week ago and she’s just been roaming the yard. I wasn’t too worried about catching her because I didn’t want to stress her out, but today I was looking in her empty cage and on the bottom level I found 4 bunnies. The first question I have is how old do you think they are? I’ll link a picture I have of them. Their eyes are open and their hair is standing up. They’re obviously not newborn but I just cleaned her hutch a week ago (which is how she escaped) and I swear they were not there. My next question is will they be okay in the cold? It was in the 50s today (Fahrenheit) and it’s supposed to be 39 tonight. They seemed cold today so I made sure not to touch them but I put pine shavings around them. It seemed to help but then mom went in there and pushed the pine shavings away. There is nothing blocking them from the wind now. Do I need to keep them warm somehow? I’m afraid something is going to get the bunnies as well with the door open so I’ve been trying to catch mom today. Do you think catching her and locking her up with them might be too stressful and cause her to abandon them? She will come up to me but she’s very jumpy and definitely not tame. Thank you to anyone who can answer any of my questions! I’ve owned rabbits for a while but I’ve never had babies before!

Eyes normally open at around 10-14 days, they should be out of the woods at that age but they still need a warm nest.

Shelter them from wind and draft, you can put hay around them, if there is any dry fur around put it on top of them. I would even use some fine hay/dry grass for that.

Feed the doe well,, 2-3 times the normal amount of pellets, if she is underweight you can add some rolled oats to her diet (about a tablespoon per day) to her diet.

hopefully you do not have any predators in your yard as otherwise they would all be in great danger. A friend let her rabbit free roam the garden and it had done so for about 4 years until last week when a fox caught her. They are very hungry and may also have young to feed at this time of year so please be very careful
if you do have predators of any kind are you able to put them inside?

I’ve never had any problems with predators, but I definitely need to catch mom, thank you! I locked the babies up last night just in case!
