Hi there. I saw mention of this forum on fb and thought I'd check it out. :) Have worked with rabbits, helped other rabbit owners, and been hooked on rabbits for years. They are my passion.

Welcome to the forum! I see you have one rabbit Diamond. What kind of rabbit is he/she? You should tell us some more about him/her and share some pictures. We love to see bunny pictures.

I hope to see you posting around the forum.

Thanks, Amy and Jujub. :) I've mostly been browsing today and getting used to the format. I guess I'll post more when I see a topic I feel like jumping into.

More about me and Diamond? Ooh, lets see. I've pretty much been in all camps when it comes to rabbits. I think this gives me valuable perspective.

I've volunteered at a big shelter for a few years, trained rabbit volunteers, did write ups, assessments, rehab/behavior adjustment, adoptions, and worked with local rescues as a shelter volunteer during that time. Was a 4H rabbit leader for a few years. I've done rescuing for about 4 years as space allows. Not just rabbit specific rescues. I rehomed 3 goats and a lamb from up state last weekend.

I used to teach pet rabbit owners in my real community, as well as virtual community, how to be better rabbit owners, understand their rabbits, and help them with their pet rabbit issues (aggression/shyness/housing/pairing) and questions. I still do this on request, occasionally, as my busy schedule allows.

Though I am not a 4H leader anymore, I judge rabbit showmanship at a nearby county fair. I love teaching children about rabbits. I especially enjoying seeing that special relationship - that close bond - that the 4H children have with their bunny when they compete together in showmanship. I've seen many 5 - 7 year olds that know more about rabbits and have a closer connection with their them than most adults that have had pet rabbits for years.

I'm an ARBA member. I'm studying to be an ARBA registrar.

Diamond is my love. She is not my only rabbit. I just didn't know exactly how I should fill out the info boxes when I registered here. Just Diamond seemed sufficient but I have several rabbits. :) I show my pets and do quite well with them on the state and national level.

Okay, that was a short novel, huh? :baghead Well, you asked. :biggrin2:

:hello Welcome to RO!

It sounds like you are very active in the rabbit community, that's wonderful. It's always great to have people with various experiences join and share their knowledge. I see you are in Northern California? Me too! It doesn't really feel like Cali as of late though; very strange weather. Anywho, see you around the forum!

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

You definitely have a lot of experience to offer, good luck with the registrar studies.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.

Hi and welcome! It sounds like you have a lot of great experience to share with us. I personally would like to know of any tips on educating the public on proper rabbit care--I help at a shelter adoption center that's inside a pet store and we get a lot of questions from people about rabbit care, and sometimes it's hard to say some things without making the person who asked you offended. My chronic social awkwardness doesn't help either!

Thank you, Wabbidad, for the welcome and the links. It can sometimes be difficult to manuvure through an unfamiliar format.

@ Tonyshuman - When it comes to teaching it always helps to be humble and open minded. You can be those things and still keep your passion for what you do. If words get in your way or you do not have an immediate answer to questions asked, then pointing the inquirer to a library of literature in order to find the answers to their own questions can be a great solution.

Best Friends Animal Society has some pretty good educational flyersthat answeryour most common pet rabbit questions. Directing your potential adopters to a small library of these flyers placed in a multi compartment verticle paper holder from Staples is a good way to help answer their questions w/o offending or stumbling over your words. The paper holder is great for making the best use of space on a small table and for carrying the literature neatly to and from offsite adoption locations.

Here is a link to BFAS's rabbit literature library. The pdf files are free for printing. http://www.bestfriends.org/theanimals/petcare/bunnies.cfm

Thanks so much! We do have some literature available at the adoption center, mostly stuff compiled from the HRS website. I will certainly look at that literature and see if it would be a good thing for us to print out and have on hand!
