My name is Rue and I'm from Metro Vancouver, BC. I'ma stay-at-home mom to two boys (aged 8 and 11) and I've recently become a bunny slave.
I've never had a rabbit before, but my youngest son has wanted a bunny forever! Then, at the end of August, I had the opportunity to "rescue" a rabbit from a neighbour, who'd been keeping him ina wire-bottomedcage inthe garage 24/7 because his 5 year old daughter had"lost interest"in the rabbit and he no longer wanted it. He was ready to take it to the local shelter because, though he was advertizing it, no one would come take it and they were leaving for a week-long vacation.
We've converted the unused shower in our downstairs bathroom to hold his cage (sans wire bottom!) and during the day we put up a baby gate and let him out into the bathroom and front hall. When we're home later in the afternoon, he gets free reign of the downstairs. (We have allergies, so he's not allowed upstairs into the bedrooms...though once the kids have gone to bed, he often sits at the bottom of the stairs by the baby gate and stares longingly after them.) He loves bunny cookies and pets, except when he's exploring or doing binkies in the living room. He also loves to run circles around my feet, grunting and thumping. He also loves his ball which he nudges around and, er, dominates... :biggrin2:
From researching the internet, I believe he's a mismarked English Spot or English Spot cross. He's long and lean and otherwise looks like an English Spot, aside from the markings being "wrong." He's two-years-old, neutered and litter box trained and quite the character. He's recently discovered walks and now digs at the carpet at the front door until we put on his harness and take him for a hop around the neighbourhood!
The trouble is, my husband does not want to keep the bunny. Admittedly, we do live in a small townhouse and we do rent (and there's a possibility we may move in the future, which might put the bunny's future in jeopardy :tears2, so he doesn't want any pets right now. And he's really not a "rabbit person".
I've been in contact with a rabbit rescue locally, and they've said they can take him when there's room, but I'm sure they'd rather see us keep him.
Perhaps if I could find a rabbit savvy home for him, I'd bewilling tolet him go (what can I say, I'm in love... :inlove. Maybe there's a girl bunny out there looking for a handsome, charming, sweet andaffectionate husbun?
Anyway, here's a recent pic of Gus (AKA Asparagus Fuzzy Bunny):
Thanks!
Rue
