Hello everyone! I want to introduce Wick (Netherland Dwarf) and Fable (American Sable)!
I've had Wick since he was 8wo, and he is now almost 5 years old. He's been through a lot of medical treatment, but has a solid bill of health now. From all the handling he went through for medical tx, he is very friendly to humans and is more comfortable with humans.
Fable was intended to be WIck's bonded partner. I got her when she was approx. 1yo, and she is now almost 2yo. She came from a hoarder and is, at baseline, a higher-anxiety rabbit. She bunches up in a corner when she perceives you're approaching for any reason other than presenting food or when there are cooking-related smells/sounds. She is now comfortable with requesting pets and being around humans. Humorously, she prefers lounging in places where she can have a "head rest":
While they live together without fighting/chasing/tension, Wick and Fable aren't really "bonded". Fable is emotionally connected to Wick, but it's one-sided. A lot of things have been tried, but ultimately it seems the best relationship we can manage is two rabbit roommates, where Fable will occasionally groom Wick to try and win him over, but ultimately she is ignored and they ignore each other all day long. The original intention was adopting Fable to be a companion for Wick, but it has worked out that Wick is Fable's comfort. She prefers Wick above any human and will go to him when afraid, even though I have been her sole petter/groomer and he has shown no interest in her, haha. Any picture of them being close together is 100% Fable-initiated. Notably, they do get separated (by a pen wall) when supervision is not possible and overnight, just to ensure if something were to happen, it's not when I cannot intervene. I am continually hopeful that Wick will learn to grow attachment with her, while also being vigilant that the relationship does not rupture.
