Hi everyone :)

I am a first time pet owner and decided to buy a pet bunny with my boyfriend (he's had bunnies in the past but he was very young). I'm here to learn tips and tricks, the do's and dont's, and basically be the best bunny owner I can be =)

We purchased our bunny from an owner who couldn't keep her because she had a baby and cat. She told us she was a mini lop and that she wasn't sure how old it was but that it had reached physical maturity but was practically still a baby. I know with such little information it's quite sketchy but I couldn't let her stay in a home where she wasn't being loved as much as she deserved!

I have a feeling she is not a mini lop but is in fact a holland lop. What do you bunny experts think? Any tips on deciphering her age?

a fellow canadian YAY, welcome! your bun is just so cute!
Except for the longer hair, she looks like Simon, one of the bunnies I had years ago ( he has since passed on). Simon was a Holland Lop. welcome welcome welcome. It's great here, I'm sure you'll love it :)

Welcome

She still looks young, so could still grow a bit. Do you know how long the other person had her for? Many people get young rabbits (6-8 weeks old) and decide they can't keep it after a few months. Smaller breeds are considered adults at about 6 months, but can still grow a bit after that. If you know how long the other person had her and the approximate age she was bought at, you can estimate a good age. To me, she looks about 4-5 months old, but I am no expert with that.
Mini lops are actually bigger than Holland lops. Mini lops get to be about 6 pounds full grown and Holland lops at about 4 pounds.

You will learn a lot about rabbits on this forum. I have been a bunny slave for just over 5 years now and have been on the forum for almost 4 years and am still learning new things.

One thing I will say is that the cage looks bare. You should get her some more toys (make sure they are safe for bunnies), a hiding house, litter box with rabbit safe litter and lots of hay. If you already have some of these and just didn't have them out when you took pictures that is fine, but it is a very good idea to put some more stuff in the cage. You would not like a bed room that just has your bed and a short book and have to stay there all the time and neither does a rabbit. They are smart animals and get bored easily.

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

She's a cute bunny. It is hard to tell from pictures, but based on the ear shape I wouldlean more towardsMini lop.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.
