The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund is a non-profit organisation that aims to improve the lot of rabbits in the UK and further afield.
The Association's website is here http://www.rabbitwelfare.co.uk/ and its Facebook account is here http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The-Rabbit-Welfare-Association-and-Fund/191449507147
The Association produces a high-quality quarterly magazine, Rabbiting On, with articles written by vets and other professionals. It also funds research into health matters, sponsors rabbit specialist internships, seeks to educate rabbit owners through its magazine, its annual conference, rabbit awareness days in pet stores and campaigns for an overall improvement in rabbit care. Although the Association is not a rescue, it does make donations to rabbit rescues each year.
January's focus is on improving the lot of those rabbits who live outdoors. As you will know, many UK rabbits live outdoors, and while this can be a good environment for them provided housing is sturdy, spacious and well insulated, as well as being safe against predators, when a hutch is all that is provided, and often a small one at that, life for those rabbits is not good. This is the situation the Association seeks to change. Campaigning has gone on for a long time and some success has been achieved in persuading some larger retailers to stop selling undesized hutches.
