Hello everyone *waves*. My name is Wendy. I'm married, with 3 kids. Phillip and Jonathan are our 15 yr. old twin boys, and Katrina is our 14 yr. old daughter.
We live on a 176+ acre farm. We have 14 horses, 7 barn cats, some ducks, a Black Lab and a Texas Heeler. We all actively show and compete with our horses.
My daughter had talked about getting into rabbits, as a 4-H project, for the past 3 years. I've had pet rabbits, as a kid, and she was given a rabbit a few years ago. Unfortunately she passed away (she was 10). Anyway, I started researching the different breeds, went to a rabbit show, and I was hooked. She's going to breed and show Californians, and my passion is French Lops. We're both members of the ARBA, PASRBA, and the LRCA.
We have 2 Californians, both going back to Al's Cals. VERY nice show stock, and should get her off on the right foot. Jack is a 2 yr. old buck and Twila is a 6 month old doe. I would like to find another breeding California, but haven't found anything that will fit what we're looking for yet.
We have a rabbit that was supposed to be a Mini Lop, but he's so tiny I highly doubt he's really pedigreed. His name is Romeo, and he's my baby. He has so much personality, and is fun to watch run and jump and try to create chaos. LOL
Our French Lops:
Adeline was our first Frenchie. She's now almost 7 months old, a fawn doe, and not the friendliest. When brushing her, she lays completely still with her eyes squinted shut. I'm hoping the more we play with her, the more she'll come out of her shell. Or maybe it's the way she is and will always be a bit stand-offish.
We recently purchased 2 baby Frenchies. I had contacted the breeder before they were born, and she put me on her waiting list. We picked them up on the 10th of this month. They are so cute!! My daughter named them Max and Ruby, but their pedigreed names are Cleopatra and Dakota (just got the papers in the mail today, but they'll be called Max and Ruby at this point. lol).
The rabbits are currently housed in a 14'x16' foot stall (kicked the mini out of his stall. lol). I was going to go with hanging cages. Well, after hanging the cages for the first four we acquired, I found that wasn't going to work. So I'm slowly converting the hanging cages into stacking. Right now just Max and Ruby's cages are stacked, but the others will be shortly. I have the majority of the stall sectioned off so I can let them out to play. There's a big pile of shavings for digging in, boxes to jump on, balls to play with, etc.
Once spring gets here, we're converting the milk house into our rabbitry. I can't wait! Then the horse stall they're in now will be divided in half, so more than one rabbit can get out at a time.
I can't wait to start reading through all the posts. I can't find a rabbit vet in my area, and Google only goes so far.
