Hi Everyone,

My name is Raychel and I'm in the process of hopefully adopting a bunny in the next few months.

I'm just researching to prepare myself. My big thing right now is wanting to find a suitable cage. I know the C&C cages seem to be a favourite. I'm also looking for a cage that is up on wheels so she would be up higher.

If anyone has cage suggestions I would appreciate it! The girl I'm looking at is a 4lb holland lop :)

Welcome to RO!

I don't know the C&C cages, but you'll want to look for one big enough so the bunny can stretch out and relax and also stand up full height. Your Holland would be roughly the same size as my mini-Rex Natasha Rabbitova, and her cage is about 19" x 39" - a/k/a 1/2 meter x 1 meter - on the first level, and four feet by the same depth on the balcony.

I'd suggest you rethink the "up high on wheels" idea. If your bunny can get in and out of the cage on her own, it will make life much easier for both of you, especially while the bun's getting used to the whole "using a litter box" thing.

When my son brought my first rabbit, Scone MacBunny, to live with us, he had a cage with an opening top lid which usually sat on a bench or table so Scone could be more at our level. When I started letting him out for an hour or two each evening, I had to remember to pop him back in his cage periodically to use the litter. One weekend I let him out in the morning, and he was so good I forgot to put him back. I found him slinking away from a corner of the dining room - you never saw such obvious embarrassment in a rabbit. He just couldn't hold it any longer, and he was SO ashamed... I went out that afternoon and bought him a larger cage (a Macchioro) with a side door I could let down so he could hop in whenever he wanted. About six months later I built a second floor onto it, and Natasha's using the same cage today.

Here's Natasha on her balcony, with her water bottle, food dish and hang toys - the first floor has her litter, her pellet dish, a hay rack, and a box as an intermediate step to hop onto on her way up and down.

Welcome to the forum.

Honey doesn't have a cage at all. She has a carrier for trips & an xpen [exercise pen] to live in. I get in it & sit on the floor when I visit her. It gives her about 20 square feet of space. She's not a climber, so the sides aren't that high; but climbing rabbits need tall pens, mesh over the top of a shorter pen, or to be be in the cube setup instead.
