Hi everyone!
I've been researching rabbits for a few weeks now and am looking for some advice. I have decided I definitely want a 2 rabbits in the long run. After reading I have decided to get and raise a boy rabbit, then rescue a second once the first is neutered. Is this the best way to go about things? If buying litter mates and raising them together would work, I'd be more interested in doing that.

I definitely want a large breed and flemish giants are my first pick. I also love the checkered giants and others. Basicly I'm looking for large, friendly rabbits that will live in my home only, not outdoors. Ill be spending the next few weeks building a cage and collecting the needed supplies.

Can anyone recommend a breeder in nc, Va, sc?

By the way, I'm mike. I'm currently owned by an Australian cattle dog, a blue pointer, 2 painted turtles, many fish tanks and soon rabbits. I feel like I'm starting a zoo!!

Welcome to the forum!

You have definitely found a great site for rabbits. The Library section has a lot of good bunny basics. I have Flemish Giants and they are a great rabbit breed. The are called gentle giants and they really are.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions, this is a very active site and you can usually get a reply to a question within hours. Also, everyone is very friendly and very helpful.

So, good luck with your search!

if you are looking for two you could also look into adopting an already bonded pair? you can look on petfinder.com for a rescue near you. with a bonded pair already it will cut the stress out of bonding them yourself, lol, which is sometimes more stressful to the bunny slave then the buns themselves, lol.

good luck, and way to go with researching first before you get a rabbit. Be ware rabbits are like potatoe chips you just cant stop at one, lol. cant wait to see pics of your additions when you get them

Thank you guys! This forum is great, I'm learning so much. After talking to a few breeders last night we've decided to get a grey buck flemish, then wait until he's neutered and adopt a second.

Now to get to work building a cage and studying more! Thanks again for everything.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum....I am also from NC. I know several breeders of Flemish. There is a breeder in the Charlotte area that has some of the best Flemish I have ever seen. I have two of them. A steel male and a black female. Both are beautiful rabbits with great personalities.....and they are huge. I also volunteer with an educational facility in the Benson area that just had some Flemmie babies....and they are from the stock at the Charlotte area breeder. And I have some friends near the Raleigh area that also breed Flemish. You should be able to find them easily if you Google....Wooley Boogers and Rock N Roll Rabbitry.

I also have listings of some of the best rabbit vets all over the state. I now rescue almost exclusively wildlife but still do some very advanced medical work here and routinely consult with numerous vets. So if you ever need any medical help or advice finding a rabbit savvy vet in NC....pop into the infirmary as I try to be around often.

Randy

Welcome Mike :) If you are looking for larger, social rabbits, Flemish Giants would probably be the way to go... I would recommend getting them both young, even if they aren't littermates, and letting them room together from the start... Have them neutered as soon as they reach appropriate age, and everything should go smoothly.

I'm of no help on breeders, I live all the way over in Southern California.

You aren't the only furry fanatic here, that I promise you! No one thinks you're crazy! ;)
