Hi

I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice. I have a 2 (nearly 3) year old lionhead called Ebony. She is lovely and very good natured. Sadly her sister died about 2 weeks ago and I dont know what to do about getting her a friend.

I know that rabbits are social animals and would like to get her someone to keep her company but not sure the best way to go about it. Do i get a rabbit the same age? Do i get a baby? Are they less likely to bond if I get a baby?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

For her age people recommend taking her to a bunny rescue or shelter and allowing her to pick her own friend. Her age would be difficult to bond with another female so you'd have to bond her with a male. Welcome. :)

I don't find age to be a big factor. I have an almost 7 year old who is bonded to a 2.5 year old. I would not recommend a baby though as their personality can change once they hit puberty and you will have to get it spayed or neutered when it is old enough.
I would recommend going to a shelter or rescue and take Ebony with you so you can let her meet other rabbits. This lets her pick who she likes.
Since it has only been 2 weeks since her sister died, she might not be ready quite yet. If she is acting more normally (eating, drinking, being social etc), then it can be a good time to start looking for another rabbit. If she still seems to be grieving, then I would wait a bit longer.
