Hello everyone!
I'm extremely new to the realm that is rabbit keeping but I am a quick and eager learner. I had been looking to adopt a small dog to share my apartment with as I had been very lonely for the past couple months but with a complete lack of a yard I knew that a dog just wasn't for me. I came across a couple small rabbits on Petfinder and thought that a house rabbit might just be the pet for me. I started doing my research and found Simone on Petfinder. She is a two pound Siamese Netherland Dwarf rabbit. She's a year old and she has been spayed.
I adopted her this past Saturday after driving two hours to Pittsburgh from Erie and the past couple days have been interesting. She has been what I consider to be a bit more nippy than I was lead to believe and since I have never owned a rabbit that bit me before I was really shocked and upset by it. I don't blame her since I was probably doing things that she wasn't happy with, but it was upsetting all the same to have a rabbit bite me.
We're working on catching her before she bites us and making our sharp sound to make her stop and not bite either us or the furniture or the carpet. I'm hoping by us not reacting to her bites and catching her before biting the biting and nipping will stop and we'll have our little sweetheart bunny eventually.
I'm open to any and all suggestions to help us bond to our bunny better. She was a total cuddlebun with her foster mom, but she also has 20 years experience with rabbits whereas my fiance and I have basically none. When Simone would nip her foster mom her foster mom would pick her up and hold her, when Simone nips me I try to get away from her and then she just tries to bite me all the more. It's just frustrating and kinda scary at the same time. I just want to know if my feelings are normal and if anyone has any tips for getting over the anxiousness from being bitten I would really appreciate it.
