Where do you get your hay from?

I bought a cube at a feed supply store before I knew the difference in quality. I want to get really awesome fresh hay but I have no idea where to get it from. Should I go to other feed supply stores? I'm going to toss the stuff I have out, it sucks!

The stuff I got last time was suppose to be horse quality but it didnt even have a tint of green! I think it was old.

Dr. Foster and Smith, I like them, but I need hay too fast to order.

Decisions decisions.. lol.

I get it from a local farmer. It's high quality horse hay (they have supplies Spruce Meadows, an international show jumping facility). It is a bit more expensive that other places, but is worth it. It's always nice hay, not really dusty and it green.

You should look for horse hay that has little to no alfalfa. Try talking to local barns and stables to see where they get the hay from. Ask if you can see the hay they have, they might even sell you a couple bales.

We get hay in bulk from Pine Hill Farms in Virginia. They sell large bales they call "bunny bales." We order the 25lb bale that lasts us months. It's about $15 for the bale and $15 shipping, so $30 total. It's a way better price per ounce/pound than what you can buy in stores. Our bunnies seem to love it!

I buy it from a local feed store. They always have a chalkboard hanging up with the latest bale prices of various hays. They let me know when it was cut and which cutting (1st, 2nd, etc) it is.

I bought a full bale of timothy hay in mid march for $24 to feed my 2 bunnies. I also use it generously on top of their litter. What I haven't used over these past 4 months now fits into 3 separate 30 gallon plastic storage boxes. At this rate, it should easily last me a full year. It is still green. Even after a year, I'm sure it will still be fresher than what they sell at the petstores.
