How much hay do you go through in a month? Like flakes?

That would be awesome! I'd have to go and steal some if you did... My guys are hay monsters and go through about a flake every two weeks (and that's mainly all Zeke...)

So... a flake is one section of a bale that comes apart from the others easily, right?

...Mine go through one every two days.:shock: Although part of that is Oberon peeing on it, another part is Loki throwing it everywhere and then Mocha pees on it.

Thankfully I have a local farmer to buy from!

Yes, and flakes can be thick or thin, loose or tight, and the bale can be the same. Right now, we have some grass hay that is pretty loose. The horses prefer the alfalfa but the field needs to be reseeded.

The fresher grass hay - Bo pounces on! I use Oxbow, but I use the barn hay as a sort of treat/encouragement to eat more hay. Most of the time I can't use the barn hay anyhow - it's out of the alfalfa field.

Haha...if we're going by flake...I go through about one every 1.5 days. I give everyone about 1/2lb of hay daily (and sometimes Flower needs refills, while Fiver needs refills daily...but he's making up for lost time, I think).

The funny thing is, they do eat the vast majority of what I give them, too! I've got hay fiends!
