Okay. I have ben buying timothy hay for my bunnies in those small kinds of packages at petstores. I was wondering if it would me cheaper to buy a bale of hay. I don't know what kind of hay to get though and what stuff like fertilized hay and things like that are.

Definitely go with hay bales! The hay is often better quality and a lot cheaper.. around here it's about $12 a bale for a good timothy hay, but price may vary. I used to buy the hay in little tiny bags in the store, but it's really just highway robbery - I saved a lot of money buying bales! I'd just go for a high quality timothy hay, or any type of grass mix (bluegrass, oat, etc). I'm notsure what fertilized is? But usually if you can find a good hay supplier that horse people use, you'll be having good quality hay :).

Now I don't even pay for my hay.. I just am able to take a garbage bag andbag upthe loose bales at the feedstore. Not only is it free, I can pick and choose what hay types to get, so my guys get a huge variety.

Are loose bales like stuff that spilled? Did you just ask the manager if you could take it? Where should I go a feed store or something like tractor supply?

Aly!:tongue

I go there quite often since the rescue is right there, so the people there know me somewhat, but they don't mind at all because it's the loose stuff that falls off when moving bales, or if a bale breaks etc. and it helps keep where the hay is clean.

I would just ask :D. Sometimes you have to just buy a bale if the loose stuff is wet/dirty, but I often find perfectly good hay that's just broken off from a bale or loose under one for my guys.
