Whats the general consensus on using hay as bedding. I find that my rabbits, especially Rice, don't seem to like it. I usually put a phone book, or one of a shoe box or something in the cage as well and i notice (only when i use hay as bedding) she will stay on the phone book or in the shoe box, as if she doesnt wanna touch the hay. I only use it when i run out of my regular stuff that i use for bedding. i think maybe it itches her or something??

My bunnies avoid hay on their cage floor as well. It kind of makes sense because hay bothers my feet; small pieces are fairly prickly. And from a human standpoint, hay gets really nasty when moist. I used to have a problem with water bottles leaking on top of hay that had fallen on the floor. Let me tell you, it was pretty disgusting:shock:.

My rabbits don't seem to like bedding at all, except for Fey and Sprite with their dish towels. Mocha and Loki would love those... as a snack.:? Oh, and all three girls like to sleep on grass mats sometimes. Everything else usually gets pushed aside.

My buns LOVE to eat their hay, so I refrain from using it as litter or bedding.
Out of different things I've offered them, they seem to prefer their blankies. I buy cheap baby blankets and then cut them up into bun-size pieces.
They groom them, fight with them, dig at them, pat them, and Chippy uses hers for her nesting.

oh yeah, i use baby blankets for the bunnies too. they love to dig at them and chew holes on them. and of course push them around and bunch them up. they just sleep on them sometime. its more less a toy for them
