Hawthorne - Safe?

I've been doing a little research because today my parents picked out and planted some bushes and trees in their yard. Well one of those is a Hawthorne and although I have found that the branches are safe, are the leaves as well? I have not found anything the specifically names the leaves as safe or unsafe so I was wondering. I mean, if I can add a little more variety with something as simple as a new type of twig or leaf, it's worth looking into!

Pipp, I knew the branches were safe, but are the leaves? I don't want to assume because look at tomatoes, the plant is poisonous but the tomato is safe. Another example is potatoes, the plant and potato are safe but the shoots are poisonous off the potatoes are poisonous.

This list says the twigs are safe but doesn't mention if the leaves are safe or not.
