I have a hammie. I love my hammie. My hammie'sname is Desidareux (Des-ih-dare-roh), Desi for short. Desi is 3 yearsold and is a black bear hammie boy.

Desi was born in the pet store where I used to work. He was born 3years ago and was kept as a breeder. So he stayed in a 10 gal. tankwith 4 chicks, who beat the poop out of him. Eventually they decided hewasn't a good 'stud', so they stuck him in another tank with 3 MALES,all adults, who continued to beat the poop out of him. He stayed incramped tanks getting the poop beat out of him for 1.5 years. Then Iadopted him and we lived happily ever after.

Here's Desi (don'tmention his scarring and missing hair. It'sfrom the 'bullys' he lived with before I got him and Desi is very selfconscious of his appearance. Shhh!)

Aww I miss my hammies!

I got thrown into the world of hamsters when I was about 12 years old.I purchased a "male" teddy bear hamster from Wal-Mart (Great place tobuy a pet, I know.) And a few days later "he" had 7 babies. So I got 8for the price of 1!! What a deal! Too bad my mom didn't think so. Shetried to take them back to the store, give them away but nothing workedand instead her sewing room became Hamster Alley. We had 8 seperatecages, and so many of those little excercise balls running arround allthe time. It was a handful. Sadly 2 of the babies past away ratherquickly, I'm guessing they were imbred at the store. But the otherslived long healthy lives. Mama Bear, Girlfriend, Boyfriend, Red,Einstein, and Creamy. Einstein outlived the others and he startedlosing his long hair, he was nearly completely hairless when he passedaway at close to 4 years old.

Hazel is so sweet. I hope she lives a long time.

Does Desidareux have white on his chest and belly? I justlove when Hazel stands up and you can see her white blaze.

Hi guys, i love your hamsters. I've seen acouple of friends' hamsters, and all they did was sleep. When isearched a little about them,i heard they are inactive. Isthis true with yours? Im just wondering, and i'm not trying to givehamsters a bad rep as pets :DI love rodents.

CUTE!! I intend to get a hamster (or two, or more) eventually...

But, I have so many questions!! And I have nowhere to ask them!!

I asked them on a site called Hamster House, or something like that, but the only answer I've gotten was so vague...argh!!

Anyway, I'll keep checking around to various Hammie sites...

Any recommendations??

Hamsters are nocturnal and sleep most of the day. Hazel comesout about 8:00 every night and is VERY active until sunrise the nextmorning.

We have to close the door to her room in order to get sleep! She runs on her wheel A LOT each night and it's noisy. Theymake wheels that are quieter, but I can't find one that's the rightsize. Hazel is a very LARGE girl!

Before I had hamsters, I didn't realize they eat meat. It'srecommended to supplement their diet with added protein in the form ofvery lean meat, boiled egg, or even crickets and mealworms. Ican't bring myself to feed live things to her, but we do give her leanchicken, turkeyor egg about once a week.

I don't have a hamster, but my dad had 2 dwarfhammies. He had a soft spot for the squirrels in our area. He wouldleave them treats on the fence, and stay up all morning to watch themeat them (he worked the night shift) So my sister and I bought him somedwarf hammies as a father's day gift when we moved from Eagle River, AKto Anchorage, AK. The new house didn't have Mary and Perry (his namesfor the ones in the old house) He loved those little guys. That was 12years ago, and he cried like a baby when each of them passed away. Ijust wanted to share my dad's love of hamsters in this topic.
