Question: When we get a house (about ayear away), we're planning on getting a hamster. It'll be"for" my daughter, but live probably with us in our room (to make surethe kitties don't mess with him/her).

So...my question...

Can anyone recommend a really great hamster site/forum that has lots ofgood info, like this forum? I've had gerbils before (don'tknow how similiar the lifestyles are), but I didn't have the ability toresearch for them and get them the best of the best of everything, etc. This time around, I want a SPOILED rodent!! :D

So, post away...let me know your ideas! Thanks!

I always heard that hamsters don't make greatpets for children and that they are more likely to bite than mice orrats. I've had plenty of hamsters before, but mice and rats have alwaysbeen my favorites.

Instead of buying from a pet store (which you probably weren't going todo anyway), I'd suggest looking up reputable breeders. That way thehammie will be very well socialized!

Oh...and I thought gerbils were illegal in Cali? As well as ferrets?

All my hamsters came from pet stores, and theywere the sweetest hamsters ever. Sometimes they are just misunderstood. Not all shelters have hamsters, it's rare to see any for adoption in mystate.

Pet store hamsters need lovin' too. ;)

Heh, I know. Maybe I just haven't had good luckwith them. I have had many in my life. I just find them nippy, boring, and kind of dumb. *Just my opinion though!*

Yeah, in all honesty, I find myself feeling likegetting someone from a pet store as a sort of rescue, too.Although, when I think of it, I've actually never once gotten an animalfrom a pet store. Even my gerbils were from a friend...hmm...

I have 2 dwarf hamsters, the cat often jumpsonto their cages and lays on top:shock: (we try to keep him out buthe's sneaky!) It doesn't seem to bother the hamsters at all though, they seem interested in him (little do they know he'd have them forlunch in a jiffy if they weren't in good strong cages!!:cooking:)

I have to be honest though, they aren't great pets, they sleepall day!:rollseyeslol But I love the evenings when they comeout, they are so friendly, come running when you call them. And fun towatch too, so fast!:bunnyheart

I'd love a Syrian, ours are the little Chinese dwarfs, tiny!!
