Well, Gubbs made it through his neuter with flying colors. He's still got some lube in his eye fur and a touch of blood on his privates, but he's nibbling and drinking, and was psyched to get nose to nose with Molly again. Molly hid in her box last night and didn't come out for play time today, even though her cage was open for about 6 hours. She just refused. When we got home I hadn't finished doing a disinfecting overhaul on Gubb's pen yet so he stayed in his carry crate till I was finished. Molly caught wind or something of him and came tearing out of her pen to smell him.

Bonded much? I can't wait till Gubb is healed up so they can finally snuggle together. They have blankets against the bars so they can lay next to each other, and that's currently where they are, feet kicked out and dozing. I had Robin Hood, Men in Tights playing in the same room as I was cleaning and getting Gubb's pen ready. They weren't impressed. Pity. Mel Brooks is stellar.

Anyway, any tips on keeping him comfortable? The vet didn't send pain meds home with him, which I was able to obtain when Bailey was neutered so many years ago.

Our cookie is 9 days out from his neuter/scar tissue removal. His was very traumatic and he is still recovering, so def. Different than your gubble. But he was pretty cold the following days after he came home and really appreciated warm towels fresh from the dyer to burrow under! We had about 5 towels and just kept rotating them so he always had a warm one :) we had a hard time getting him to eat as well, but it sounds like you aren't having any trouble with that with gubble. Which is awesome! :) wishing him a speedy recovery!

Thumper was neutered on Monday and sent home without pain meds as well and he went downhill fast. Not to frighten you but watch for him grinding his teeth, how much he eats, drinks and poops. I had to take Thumper back to his regular vet, was not neutered by him, and he was upset that he was sent without pain meds and his gut has slowed. He's on Metacam, Cipraside and Critical Care.

I wish your boy a speedy recovery. :)

Thanks guys, much appreciated! He is nibbling hay, but not so many pellets. I'm going to try to tempt him with a tiny bit of greens tomorrow. I don't want him getting super soft poops while he's still sore.

He didn't have actual stitches, they used glue to seal him up. The warm towels are a great idea! Whenever I have a cold or am sick my husband tosses a blanket in the dryer for me to snuggle under. I'll try that with Gubbs tonight...it can't hurt! :) Great tip!

I have to hit the feed store tomorrow for a few things; I'll see if I can nab some Critical Care or Green Mush to have on hand just in case while I'm out.

When I picked him up and got him in the car he went from huddled in the back of the crate to jamming his face against the door for pets. I talked to him the whole way home and kept the radio on things he seems to like.

I wanted to tell you too that cookie was sent home with pain meds (which our vet never normally does for routine nueters) and even tho his surgery was very invasive, and he is still recovering...he didn't end up needing anymore than one dose of his pain meds! We avoided them because they can cause stomach upset and he was already not eating for us... The one time i gave him some was when he was making little whimpering noises when he tried to flop... I could tell he was hurting...But it all depends on the bunny, hopefully he won't need any! :)

Poor thing :( I'm glad things are looking up for Cookie!

So far so good on Gubbs; he isn't grinding his teeth or sitting as if he's uncomfortable, but I'm going to sleep in the same room tonight just in case he has a rough night. He wants desperately to be with Molly, but I won't allow it...not while he's recovering and not till enough time passes that he can't get her prego. I read somewhere that after a neuter males can still impregnate a female up to something like 48 hrs following surgery. Any ideas???

Our vet mentioned that sperm can be found present in some neutered males for up to 5 days post surgery! But I'm sure average is just a few days... Poor guy! He so lucky to have an awesome bond :) I hope we can find a special someone for cookie :)

Glad to hear Gubble surgery went well and that he's home with you and Molly.

Dobby and Kreacher were the same. So happy to see me when I went to pick them up. They couldn't get close enough to me. Even the girls at the Vet's office were astonished at how they greeted me. Never saw bunnies do that before.

Definitely keep Gubble separated for a month. Boys do hold onto sperm for a bit.

Hoping Gubble's recovery is quick and soon can snuggle with Molly.

BTW, good idea Liz with the warm towels. Have to remember that for future use.

K:)
