Hi again, more questions :)

Do any of you experienced rabbit breeders and showers...do you use any "wipes" or "sprays" to help with the coat before they show?

I am just reading and seeing alot of things for sale along those lines..and I am aware many things say things just to get you to buy them. Just wondering if you all use anything?

Also, does stain remover help with stains really?

Thanks!

The only thing I use is water sprayed on my hands and wiped over the rabbits. Anything else is not allowed when showing rabbits.

If I have a rabbit with stains I use plain white vinegar the day before the show. I spray it on and let it dry then lightly brush the area.

I have seen one girl using corn starch mix on her new zealands before a fair show(she wouldn't show in the open arba shows, just the 4h shows) and she said she had seen it being done at a regular show-she had gone with us a couple times and her 'prized' dutch buck didn't do well in open(hence why she wouldn't show that way) but I NEVER saw anyone using corn starch on their white rabbits, i never did on any of my broken holland or my dutch. i would rather they go to the table slightly stained than to go jiffed up like that.

If you use the cornstarch vinegar mixture it needs to be completely brushed out before the show.

The only thing I use is the vinegar/water mix to clean stains off feet. Haven't tried cornstarch/vinegar mix but that sounds like it would work better since you can just brush it off when it dries; instead of rubbing the stain out which takes forever!

Other than that, I don't use anything else, and you're not really supposed to as some things are considered "cheating", and thejudges are good at looking for that stuff, so they will DQ the rabbit if theyfind anyform of cheating.;)

Products that are designed for cleaning the coat are fine (stain removers, no-rinse shampoos).

Products claiming to add something to the coat (sheen, luster, conditioner) are not permitted (Show Sheen Hair Polish). Powders are also not permitted on the coat.

All grooming products should be used well before the show - shampoos strip natural oils from the coat, so should not used in the days immediately preceding the show.

Stains and white rabbits- the never ending story!

Somethings like BioGroom work... the cornstarch works, vinegar is ok.. don't believe anyone who says lemon juice works.. EZAll works..

Speaking of cheating!! Was at a show this week where a girl was using baby powder on her Giant Angora and she won BIS Youth! I hate to see cheating.

I use water ( preferably rain water) that I work through the coat for a week before a show every couple of days once I have worked it with my hands I go back through it with a comb working it in sections which is really good for taking out any dead hair or tugs.
On show day or the night before the show I go over the coat with a piece of silk and polish them up lol!

I never use anythign else through the coat as a lot of times the judge can feel it

also the carriers that you use make a HUGE difference. I've seen people come in with cat carriers that they've used to bring their rabbits in, and that makes their feet nasty. i've got a typical carrier that i fill the bottom with shavings(i've also seen shredded paper used). i've found the shavings works the best and alfalfa cubes for them to chew on instead of hay works the best.
