We went in the grocery store to do some shoppingand this casual dressed guy comes up to my mom and says "Ma'am excuseme do you have a toonie on you? My girlfriend left me with the car andI don't have a ride home and I don't have any change for the bus." Mymom anda Ibelieved his genuine problem and gave him thetoonie.. and what do you know what we saw saw when we went back to theparking lot? Him asking more people if they had toonies for a "busride"! Grr. Made me so mad!

My mom said it was her $2 lesson.. she's not giving money to strangers anymore! Both of us felt so stupid for believing him.

ohh the nerve of some people, they should be ashamed of themselves:disgust:

If the guy's girlfriend left him with a car, why would he ask for a "toonie" to catch the bus home?

I looked it up for us :) A "toonie" isa Canadian coin worth two dollars.

Ruka -- I think the wording meant that shedeparted by means of the car, leaving him stranded.

Spring -- You tried to help - I'm sure most of us would have done the same.

Atleast it was only $2 and not a higheramount...but I think we all would have done it...it happens, sometimesthe better half of us takes over. lol

Well at least it was just a toonie, the wholeToronto got scammed since the city transit decided to call an illegalstrike. I wonder how poor people got to work.

:D. It's just a kickerthat I believedhim.. I felt so naive lol. He just looked so frantic and stuck!Probably wanted to buy a pack of smokes or booze.. oh well.

Okay this is going to sound kind of strange, but I LOVE TOONIES...I love the name its so cool. Wish Amerian money was cool..lol
I've always wanted a toonie. My fiance and I would love go to Canada for my 21st Birthday!

I like the $2 bills better, they make my walletlook fatter:p. Anyways there's always a guy on a little island in themiddle of the street a few mins away from my house. They hold up a signsaying "Traveling, need money for food/to get home/gas/etc." and standthere literally all day in the sun with the sign and a bag. A load ofBS if you ask me.

We have that too. A personwould stand in the middle of abusy intersection, and collect money atthe red lights.

Here is the Canadian Toonie.
The 2000 version (top two coins)has the Queen and the polarbear with two cubs.
The 2005 show the modern Queen and a single polar bear.

Spring, don't feel as if you and your mom were/are stupid .

You were kind enough to believe this person, the "stupid" label belongs to him for treating others this way. Maybe he was never taught right from wrong , but I'm certainhe wouldn't want a scam performed on him !
