So I know there are several members here fromBC... and I will be there from Wed - Sun this week for work soooo...wondering about good places to eat or cool areas to visit.

When I go for work I usually stick to downtown - Robson street etcsince it is walking distance from my hotel. I've been out toStanley park a few times, but I have never been over to Granvilleisland to spend any time - anyone know of good places to eat in thatarea or streets to visit etc.?

Pipp - I know you're the Vancouver expert ;).

Oh yes that's right - Jan is overthere!! I just found out I was going to be there today!

Hmm... well, I love Japanese or Thai/Vietnamese food. Neilloves Chinese. Basically, give us rice and we're set... oreven good italian places.... hmm.. pasta...

I usually just end up doing the Milestone's or something equally as simple.

Lessee....

First off, instead ofMilestones, try the Cactus Club (1136Robson)... Great menu, great food. There's also onein Yaletown that may be even better.

My personal favourite is The Banana Leaf, which I think is Malaysian,on Denman and ... hmm... Comox? Think it's the 1000block of Denman, the southern end of the block, east side of thestreet. If you go there doing normal dining times, make areservation, it's pretty small.

There's a great sushi bar on Denman as well witha great happyhour deal -- I think it's four dishes for $6.95, can't remember thename of it though, and it's tough to find the door. (I'llcheck around when I get a minute).

There's a great take-out sushi bar, the Kamiya Sushi To Go at 1111Davie that's got fresh sushi with good portions for a goodprice.

For pasta, Da Pasta Bar is definitely the winner, 1234 Robson, awesome food.

If you're lookingfor ANYTHING in terms of Chinese food(especially Dim Sum), you'll find it atHon's, in the1300block of Robson, north side of the street. Theplace is huge (and loud), but so isthemenu. They haveseparatekitchens for various things, includingfor vegetariancooking. Otherwise, lots of things with tentacles and toenails, so watch what you order if you're squeamish about suchthings.

Thida Thai, 1193 Davie is supposed to be the best Thai in the West End. (Tons of Thai restaurants).

I've haddecentMexican at theAndales,1175 Davie.

I've heard good things about the Coco Rico tapas bar at 1290 Robson, haven'ttried it yet.

Everybody lines up to get into Stephos at 1124 Davie, butotherssay Takis Taverna at 1106 Davie is just asgood.

If you want to shell out for great seafood, I like the Blue Water inYaletown, never had anything great at the Kettle of Fish.Best is probably The Only on Hastings near Main (Oyster Pepper Stew andfresh clams to die for), but it's basically skid row. (Thenicest bums and junkies in the country though).

The Tsui HangVillage, Granville at Davie, wasprobably the bestChineserestaurant I've ever eatenin, but it's changed locations and is now sort of alate-nightpost bar hangout, but it's still prettygood. Zero atmosphere, except for the after midnightGranville Street nutbar clientel. Still worth theeffortif you're out late.

I'll keep thinking about it. (But gotta go, this has made me VERY hungry!)

It's called Japanese village and there's one in Ottawa and one inCalgary too. I've eaten all over the world and this has to be my #1favorite.

As for Vancouver, as a tourist, I love the Aquarium, Granville Island, the River Rock Casino ;), Metrotown (hugest shopping mall), the zoo,and Aurora's place (foster babies!).

Yes, I now have new fosters who are absolutlythe cutest ever. Three week old ND's, and mom is not muchbigger than a pop can.

If you want to stop by and visit them and Wildfire, feel free to PM me and I'll get you the address and my phone number.

There's also a couple good places to eat around my place too (I live within walking distance of the heart of Kerrisdale).

Hey, I forgot about your trip! How did it go? Where did you eat?

I see from the phobias thread you made it to at least one tourism spot.

Now honestly, isn't this better than Toronto?

Hah, yes we got back on Sunday - we had a blast.

We didn't end up doing a lot of good eating cause we were so busy withthe tourist stuff - we tried to actually have a vacation there insteadof just working which is what I usually do when I am out there.

On Saturday we went Whale watching (which took 7 hours!!!).It was SO much fun - I love whales and the scenery is SObeautiful! I could live out there just to have all thatbeautiful nature around me all the time.

We hung out on Granville Island for a while and had so many yummy pastries and other things from the market.

Then on Sunday we did the bridge and ate at the Stembrewers Pub nearGastown (it was close to the Seabus, and we were starving). Ihave to say though, the food there was FANTASTIC. I didn'texpect it, but it was really really good... Neil just wantedthe beer.

We ate a lot of Tim Horton's just because it was attached to the hotel ... :?

I personally LOVE it out there - but the homeless issue seemed to havegotten worse than when I was there a year ago. Although itmight have just been a busy weekend for them, who knows.

All in all - it was a good trip - despite the fact that Neil booked ourflight home for October 24th (instead of SEPTEMBER 24th), and when wedid finally get home he realized he 'cleaned out his wallet' at thehotel and cleaned us right out of our parking pass to get the car outof the lot at the airport. :?

I love Vancouver, but it's nice to be home. ;)
