Going to do a speech on emergency kits today

In light of last year galveston island is trying to get people prepared for this years hurricane season.

There will be speeches by a few different people on how and what to pack in a emergency kit. How long to be able to be stable without having to worry how to transport and such. Hopefully no one would have to use it but it will be there.

I am presenting

Dog

Cat

Rabbit

A few people in our group are doing everything else from bird to reptile.

The thing is I really dont have a speech. Cause I will be presenting my personal kits as explamples. Thiose thing where life savors last year. We have practised amoug our group and everyone said myne was great I say what i feel. It is so much easier to of had them I could only imagin what it would have been like not to have them.

so if anyone has any advice. This a group of us that still volinteer at the humaine society I foster some work in kennels some do paper work. We wanted to do this. It will be video taped and I am not suure from there. There will be a adience but not alot there going to make it public but not sure how? I think on the galveston chanel or something.

I looked up the numbers only 10% of pet owner have kits iscase of a emergency. Most think they will just pack when the time comes. One thing I aks anyone that reads this think about your own emergency kit. Everything in myne I change once a year. Does not matter where you live something could always happen.

Anyway any advice.

thats a good idea having an animal emergency kit, honestly i have never thought about it. what kinds of things do you put in your rabbit kit? that way i can be prepared too in case anything were to happen.

Storm has

Unopened bag of pellets

Critical care

Treats

bowls

bed

bag for hay before we leave

NIC panels so I can make a cage where ever go.

Hay rack

Fan that batery pawered

Water bowl/Bottle

Small litter box

60 buck gift card to wal mart for vegys

toys

Gas meds

Nutrical or the eqvilaent

Wipes so I can clean him up he always pees in the kennel

Kennel for transport with water bowl attached adn fan battery operated no ac in my car

All vet records and his microchip info/copys not orginal

Apicture of me and him and a picture of erroll and him

Oh his feeding sheduale in case we get seperated. And his health issue but storm does not have any at the moment

I also have a tag attatched to his kennel like a dog tag with name address phone numbers.

And bedding for the litter box

I would have to go get his out of the car to see what else.

I plan for 3 weeks if not being home.

My dog has

A bag of food un opened, Back up leash and collar, Picturs with me and erroll, shot record, Back up collar has tag, her microchip info is in my car and in my wallet, and one sticker on the back of my phone, travel pop up kennel, bed, toys, her stomch stuff, benydril, 2 months of heart guard and frontline, bowls food and water, Copy of vet records,

Cat has

Literbox travel size, Unopens bag of food, Toys, bed, bowls kennel with batery operated fan, shot records copy, Micro chip info, pictures with me and erroll, Her kennel has a tag like storms, She has tags on her collar, Back up collar and leash, 2 months worth of ffrontline, upopened bag of litter.

I will have to look and update.

I dont want to have to worry about do I have everything for them. If IO know its ready then I dont have to worry about it.

And I dont take anything out. Thats the key. cause everything can be used now but if you take it out cause you run out and dont put it back for what ever reason then you dont have it when you need it.

Pretty much anything you use on a daily basis need to be in there. I just buy double of something if it new. And throw it in there.

Last year my 1 emergency kit for my dog took care of 7 dogs when we evacuated we did it with a group of people everyone had dog but no one but me was prepared. They grabbed food and such. No leashes bowls anything. I had it all thats one thing I did not have to think about.

I had to find a place to go pack for me and hubby. make sure pets would be aloud. Load my car many times. So you dont think about water bowls and leashes. you pick your pet up and go. You want everyone to be safe. I even have a list of what i need to pack for me and hubby so we have everything.

In a emergency your not thinking straight. Plus they are good if someone has to pet sit for you. for longer then a few days just take that.

Well all went well I was thye first one up and the first one out of there.

I just came home to drop the stuff off and go meet for lunch. I had phoenix with me I need her get some exsposure to people and different things. So all went well have to run

Im glad things went well today! im going to startgetting an emergency kit together for my bun. i hope everyone will start being more prepared for disasters, seems like there are more and more disasters going on in the world today, so i guess being prepare even though one may not have a lot of disasters in their area is always a good thing because anything can happen anywhere... a scary thought. would you keep any meds on hand for a bun?

I have the gas meds I cant remeber the word. If they take meds regularly I would I have the nutrical and I also keep a small thing of apple juice to spike water.

I keep the normal precaution meds. But I have double of everything. So i never take out of the emergency kit.
