Did you know that now girls from age 12+ can have an injection to stop cervical cancer!

But mum said I don't have to have it not yet becuase we are a bit like guinea pigs! We don't know if its safe yet!

Yes, and actually my daughter Lexi (will be 13 in November) was supposed to have the gardisil vaccination but there have been some really bad things showing up now. Apparently it's causing an upsurge in autoimmune disorders and stuff like that.

Lexi only just got her verasilla vaccination.... most kids had it at a very young age. It was too new for me to trust then.

Gardisil is the vaccine for the cervical cancer (name over here).

To my knowledge they do it at an early age before they become sexually active, but I'm not too sure.

Heard so many things about it, from both extremes, but doubt most of what's been shoved down my throat about the vaccine is true LOL. Wouldlike to see in a couple years aftermore stuff has been done and proven around it before thinking of getting it. Great idea though if it can prevent it.

Isn't that vaccine only if your sexually active?

*Waning to mods obviously getting into adult topics here* Not sure about over there but in the UK the HPV vaccine is only really useful if the girl hasn't already had sex as any sexual contact can lead to the girl already being exposed to HPV rendering the vaccine pretty useless. That being said, I'd advise any girl to get the 2 vaccines (I think they're called HPV 16 and HPV 18 of something) as they do help protect against other STIs.

I'm in my last year of school and turning 18 this year so am the last year of girls to get the compulsory vaccine, although they are mostly concentrating on vaccinating younger girls (around 12/13) to get herd immunity in the generation before they start having sex.

I know the vaccine is new and therefore a bit scary (believe me I'm nervous about it too!) but I would strongly advice every girl under 18 to have it. A friend of my family died at 25 from cervical cancer because the stupid NHS in this country only starts offering smear tests at age 25 so they didn't catch it in time. PLEASE get the vaccine and protect yourselves from this girls.:)

(although a warning note. This vaccine doesn't totally protect you so you will still need regular smear tests!)

I want to get the HPV shot, but I don't because I know it hurts. But it is better than having cancer. I won't get it though if it isn't really safe. Although I havent heard anything over here about it having side affects.

varisilla is the chicken pox vaccine and

yes, you are supposed to get the HPV shot before sexually active.

yeah, I've received all 3 Gardasil shots, and I'm 22. It basically just helps guard females from 4 types of HPV, two of which cause most of the cervical cancer cases.

It's safe enough in the short term, there just hasn't been enough time to do lifetime studies on it. That will happen with any drug. But before it went on the market it had to go through a long series of tests and studies to convince the FDA that it was safe before it could go to market.

I talked to my docter about it and while it won't help me as I'm already married and stuff, he had done a lot of reading up on it because his daughter isa young teenagerand he decided to go ahead andget her vaccinated. It won't prevent infection from every version of the HPV virus but it is supposed to be effective enough to be worthwhile.

My sister hadabnormal cells that showed up on her pap smear when she was in her early 20s. She had to have a minor procedure done and everything turned out fine (no cancer) but it was very, very scary.

They offer alot of diffrent needles for alot of diffrent stuff, but I'd never get a needle or anything at my school. The nurse is a maniac and just shoves it in your arms.. I seen her give one to my friend

When I first heard about the HPV vaccine last year it did freak me out a bit as it was so new and therefore they don't truly know the safety of it, but innow I do honestly believe this vaccine is safe or countries wouldn't be undergoing mass vaccination programmes. In order toadviseevery young girl to be vaccinated against this they must be pretty sure that it wont harm us.:)

And yes like every vaccine it will hurt (and trust me I am totally needle-phobic) but like all vaccines it's worth a little pain to protect you from something hundreds of times worse.:)

And for those who want to know, here is the timetable of when they will be vaccinating girls in the UK:
