I got mine pulled a year ago in March. I got IV sedation, but it didn't even knock me out, I remember the whole procedure but didn't feel anything. I didn't have muchswelling or bruising, but I did have pain. They prescribed me T3's, but I found plain old ibuprofen worked much, much better.

Piece of cake ;)

I was knocked out when I had mine done (I was in my 20's). Went home and ate a Wendy's baked potato.

I agree that the OTC pain meds were better than the prescription which made me throw-up. I did have a lot of bruising along my jaw line.

omg, we can be buddies

I had my 3 wisdom teeth and my tori (bony protrusions) out this morning. I'm now on vicadin & advil & penicillin.

When they ask if you want the teeth, take them. I even got the bone shards off my jaw from my tori, how awesome is that, lol.

I can tell you that I'm still in pain as of now, but I was told that the tori would put me in much much more pain thatn most people. Be glad you didn' thave to have that done.

Okay, so I have LOADS of info on THIS.

First, as it was said, T3's DONT work well! I took them for about a week ended up going to my doc cause we thought they were infected... She also said Advil works MUCH MUCH better for tooth aches, or anything in your mouth.

Second, dont think about it before you go... Keep calm and keep telling yourself that the people who are doing it know what they are doing.

Third, you may still be awake for it (I was... But on some GOOD drugs and didnt feel anything at all) but if you are, try and focas on something other than the ''tools'' coming at your mouth... And DO NOT LOOK AT THE NEEDLE if they have to stitch you up.

Oh, and You'll do fine! Oh, and dont plan on doing something afterwards (dont stay home alone after - orthats what they told me) I had mine done onthe first thursday of school, and didnt come back for a week or so, but mine did get semi-infected.... :?Sorry if I have got you all freaked out - but you will be FINE! :biggrin2:

I'll be thinking of you!

I'm actually very relaxed about the whole thing, I've read a whole bunch of different stuff on it and anything that COULD happen is only semi-serious and is very rare. I just like knowing as much about something as I can and since I've never had oral surgery (or any other kind of surgery) before now I thought I'd gather some tips/info from my favorite group of people!:biggrin2:

hey! i actually just got mine out yesterday! and i'm doing pretty well! the whole iv thing/getting put to sleep was a piece of cake, it wa really nice, and i came out of it well. as for pain make sure you take your meds!!! they'll make you drowsy but they feel so good. i'm probably going back to work tomorrow, so i'm recovering well, and i had all 4 out.

as for food, jello, applesauce, mashed potatoes, soup, carnation instant breakfast...thats pretty much what i've been living on,...i'm really craving a steak or cheeseburger haha.

just make sure you take your meds and you have food in your stomach when you do so, also use some ice to help w/ the swelling! good luck!

Ha, what is this, a lack of wisdom party on RO? This is freaky. 3 of us all at once.

Yeah, I realized now that I'm pretty nicely sewn up. Some small holes where my teeth were, but they were still under the gums and such. My bottom lip and chin are still numb. The doctor just called a bit ago to check up on me and said that was because he used some longer lasting novicane on the bottom, that should go away at night and to make sure I take the vicadin because it'll be painful when that wears off. Like I said though, my teeth don't bother me all that much, it's the tori. Their stitches are particularly annoying.

Anyone else out there ever have tori removed. They said they wouldn't grow back, I'd love to hear from other folks if that was true.

This must be what molar spurs are like for the bunnies, having stitches poking you in the tongue all the time.

I had a filet mengion last night as my last meal. I hadn't hada steak in 7 weeks because I'd been gone. It was good, relly good.

Also, don't let other people eat crunchy foods in front of you. You'll be jealous and want to cruch too, but you can't, so you might hurt them.

We don't have dental insurance for me, so the wisdom teeth were out of pocket. The tori might be partially covered by my medical insurance though.

hows everyone feeling that got their teeth out?? i'm on my 4th day and i still don't feel THAT good, i came into work today, but i'm still having a lot of pain i'm taking my meds, but i'm getting worried because i'm almost out!!! i'm watching what i eat because i'm scared i'll get a dry socket, which i'm sure if i had one i'd definitely know it...but my mouth still really aches! hopefully it stops soon so i don't have to worry about not having anymore of my meds!

how about everyone else?

I threw up my first time this morning, in the shower. I hadn't eaten enough before I took my vicadin.

Remember to eat before you take prescription pain meds!

One of my stitches from my tori came out this morning. Apparently they're supposed to do that, but no one had told us that before hand, would have been nice to know.

I just had local when i had mine removed... I was suposed to raise my hand if i felt anything but i paniced and was trying to move backwards on the chair and accidentalyy kicked the dentist between his legs... i only went back to him to get the stitches removed... i have sinced changed dentist

Great story, lol.

I've had 4 baby teeth and 2 adult teeth pulled before these. Those I just had local. Just having a local wasn't even given as an option this time. The location of my wisdom teeth (one under the bone) and the whole tori thing required that I be completely out.

I got mine out just about a month ago (2 lower ones, soft tissue impacted with a local anethetic). I was on Vicodin afterward, as Tylenol 3 just didn't cut it for me. The day after I got them pulled, I went back to work...and that was a bad idea. I was sicker than a dog.

I never threw up, but I did pass out at home.

My advice: limited movement to reduce bleeding and nausea and plenty of milkshakes (eaten w/ a spoon). Seriously, they are so super filling, easy to eat, and they feel good on the gums. You need to keep eating something filling while on those types of meds or you will get plenty of nausea.

Hope everyone feels better soon!

BTW, the holes you get from the pulling will be there for a while. Mine are still there and healing up.

I need to get the top 2 removed next but they are impacted AND at 45 degree angles. I'll be knocked out for that one...good times. :?
