Actually no...
from what I know, agoutis are the most popular thing to mask behind BEW, since you don't run the risk of the ruby glow...
Nearly anything can be masked by BEW. I've never heard that about agoutis...agoutis are the color group that would be most likely to cast a ruby glow though so I'm not sure why that would be preferred. I know many people who say they will not breed BEW to REW for fear of "purple" eyes, so I would assume the red cast of agouti would not be wanted in the BEWs either. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding your thoughts though!
Kirstin- What are the BEW's parents? If you post those, I can tell you exactly what you can expect. With the original information given, tort VMs would be most likely but I can't give you a 100% guarantee without knowing what colors are directly behind the BEW. With the original info given, agouti would not be likely. But it is a possibility based on what is behind the BEW.
I have never seen an Agouti with a ruby cast?
; You'd think, being the most dominate and ruby eyes being two of the least dominate genes, that they'd be safe. Plus I'm pretty sure ruby eyes are tied into the lower levels of the C gene. With agouti, otter, and self all being C... You'd figure they'd all have pure brown eyes.
Just about any dwarf BEW site, you'll see all the VMs are either black or chestnut. The only VMs I see here are chestnut. Never even opal, lynx, or chin. I have seen one black...
However on the websites, venturing more towards the east and south east, I'm seeing more blacks. West coast I see more agoutis.
