Hi everyone,

As most of you know, I have ELs. Popeye is opal and Olive is a broken fawn. I was wondering if someone could point out why their last litter of babies were agouti and broken agouti when no where in their pedigrees are there agouti. Is is because opal is in the agouti "family"? I suck at genetics so any help would be appreciated. Are all their babies going to be this color?

Popey has broken steel, broken steel(G.tp'd), broken opal, steel blue, fawn and tort in his pedigree

Olive has fawn, broken fawn, broken tort, broken steel, broken black, steel blue, tort and black in hers

Basicly opal is a diluted(blue) agouti and fawn depending on the genetics is either a diluted orange(tort agouti) or a tort agouti that is orange genetics but looks fawn. In ELs orange for the most part is fawn in color where in saw Holland Lops they are actually orange and fawn. We know the fawn parent is non-dilute because two dilutes always produce all dilute babies. So the babies all carry dilute. If you bred one of the babies back to the opal parent you would get opal and chestnut(agouti) and possibly fawn depending if Popey carries the shaded gene. All the babies carry the shaded(tort) gene.

Hope that was not to confusing :p

Thanks a bunch guys.....that explains some. Bunnybun...I was and still am a little confused but I think I get it for the most part. Thanks!
