Hi All

Thought I'd join your forum. I'm Jess from Australia. I've previously owned 2 dwarf lop eared rabbits Tessa Belle and Foxy who basically got the run of the house and outside in addition to their cage (which was 1.6m wide by 2.5m long and 1m high and on wheels, so it could be put into the garage at night to keep the cold or dew off them... did I mention they were SPOILT???). In winter we just left them inside so theyd stay warm enough because otherwise they would sit fluffed up and their ears would be cold to touch! They were amazing individuals.

Foxy was a cheeky little beast of a rabbit who loved tugofwar and would scratch your legs to get attention if she thought you were ignoring her. She would also play games where she would grunt and charge you and we'd run down the hall away as she chased us and then we'd chase her back around the house but the moment you stopped and lay down on the ground she'd come bolting up to you and flop herself against your chest and lick your face and grind her teeth.

Tessa was incredibly intelligent (much more so than foxy) and was lightning fast when she ran, she was very flighty especially when we first brought her home and she was fiesty and loved to leap onto you if you were lying down on the couch, but if she'd had enough (including of patting!!) she wasn't above giving you a nip. We gave her a "safe blanket" where if she ever got scared she could run to and sit on the blanket and the rule in the house was no one was allowed to touch her while she was on the blanket. This seemed to make her a lot more comfortable being around us :) She became blind at the age of 5 - cataracts according to the vet eye surgeon and unfortunately removing them was going to be quite risky to fix and wouldnt restore her vision very well so we just made sure the house was set up identical everytime so she knew where she was.

Sadly, these two ladies passed away within months of each other after giving us 10 very wonderful years. I've missed them both horribly ever since.

I'm looking to get a pair of sibling netherland dwarfs next once I move into the house with my hubby-to-be once we are married (2 weeks time!), and he has already okayed it ("Only if you are good to me" he says haha). They'd have a hutch on the balcony but I'd give them the run of the house for sure and the backyard (it's 1000m2 so I dont think they'd get bored and its fully enclosed!)

Can any one give me advice on netherland dwarfs? I dont have kids, so they would just be dealt with and handled by adults, and I'm okay with having a more difficult personality pet (after Tessa's mood swings anything else should be a breeze lol). Ideally I want something with personality that likes cuddles and is active.

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.
