Okay, so I was out checking rabbits, and a garter snake practically slithered across my foot. Anyways, with the kits due any day now, and the rabbits being housed in an outdoor hutch, I am concerned.

I have read that rabbits and their kits are too big for garter snakes. But, I just need some reassurance!! Anyone with some advice?! Besides bringing the rabbits indoors, I can not have them inside due to allergies and room etc. Thanks

If the mother weren't around, the kits might be in danger, but they'd probably be ok. If you wanted to be sure, you could add some screening that's small mesh to the hutch. If you used window screening, either metal or fiberglass, you'd know for sure no snake could get into the hutch.

I am not sure how big garter snakes are in diameter but maybe put up extra wire along the bottom halves of the cages and offset it to make the squares smaller. Good Luck!!
