Is anyone else highly allergic to timothy hay? :in tears::cry1: <not crying, itchy eyes ;)

Using cubes instead of loose grass help, but I was wondering is anyone else has any good tips or tricks.

Try a different kind of hay. Orchard grass can be good, but oat, brome and other grass hays are also good. There are many people who are allergic to timothy hay, but are fine (or at least better) with another type.

Ohhhhh yes. I can't touch the stuff without sneezing, watery eyes, itchy ears and roof of my mouth, I have it all. My doctor prescribed me zyrtec and flonase. Heaven sent because they work! lol I did switch to orchard hay too which I get little to no effect, really depends on if I wash my hands and face after handling it.

Try getting some of those cheap hospital disposal masks, we pick our up at the paint or hardware store for painting. Keep a big cotton shirt available to put over the rest of your clothing and keep it for only handling hay. You can also get yourself some cheap disposable gloves. You may not look quite so cute, but it is pretty effective. My husband has hay fever from all kinds of hay and grass. His preventative is to just not handle it period, I do the hay changes.

I sneeze like crazy when I put out hay for the buns. So far I'm just dealing with it, but I'll have to look into allergy meds if they're working for others! Woo!

I don't buy Timothy any more after it made my eyes hurt so bad that it felt like they were getting cut every time I would move them. So not fun.

I have no problem with Orchard and Oat, other than maybe a snuffy nose here and there. But that I can live with.

I sometimes have problems with itchy watery eyes after handling hay. After I started taking Loratadine (Generic of Claritin) I haven't had much of a problem. Pine Shavings kill me though regardless of what allergy med I use. :)

I tried loratadine too, didn't do much for me :( now I take double the meds with flonase and zyrtec. I have to say they work wonders!
