Since we don't know who might come in..... I don't want to post this in the RO section but I need to talk about it!
We have this person we are around in 4-H and she thinks and will tell us that she knows more than us about rabbits because she's had so many. She's an idiot. She tries to "educate" and make decisions for friends of ours regarding bunnies who might be sick, etc.
This person didn't even know what a cecal is called!! She said that a person comes to get them from her out of the drop trays for babies in the spring that need them (wild rescues and such) and that "it's a special poop they need" .... She tells this to everyone and when I said "those are cecals and they all need them but the older bunnies make their own" and she said I was WRONG! that this was something only babies need. I said "Um, sorry but you don't understand - the babies DO need them but ALL bunnies do and eat them daily!" She said "Whatever, you don't know as much as I do, I've had over 300 rabbits!"
So she goes on to tell them (their rabbit has the slightest of tilts and the judge told them to watch her)..... that they just needed baytril and not to pay some expensive vet to check her. I told them the baytril might work but if she gets worse that she should definitely see a vet. I told them it could be snuffles or a host of other things... of course she told them that if it is snuffles they need to .... well..... I won't say what she said but "put her down".....
She proceeded to talk to them about how she "culled" 30 babies last fall over Snuffles (which I told her is Pasteurella and again she said.... I don't think so - the vet said "snuffles".... I told her to go look at Lexi's reserve Champion poster - it was on SNUFFLES/PASTEURELLA!) and how she had a friend take the first one and that she couldn't do it herself but as they walked away they heard something and knew ...... and they were laughing!!! :X I was almost in tears at this point.
Had my daughter been there I would have killed this woman! She said if they have bad teeth you do this and that they aren't worth keeping or anything......
The attitude that she has makes me think I want to keep the kids out of the rabbit barn! I know that most of our breeders here are on the caring and concerned side. It's those breeders like this STUPID woman that I want to choke!
What's worse is that she has a daughter Lexi's age and this girl showed me her champaigne D'argent and I was so loving it and she says "Yep! they're going to chop his head off when I auction him."...... :cry2How can that little girl feel that way? and talk about it that way? He was the cutest little thing.
I talked to other kids and they loved their bunnies! One girl I didn't even know was talking to me at the supreme show and when I told her I just had pets and stuff - she wanted to talk - sure enough she had a castor mini-rex doe and wanted to know all about Bo! She was about 15 I'd say..... when I mentioned velveteen lops she didn't know what they were - now she's going to hunt them at State Fair (they have them as a demo since they aren't recognised) and at the ARBA convention. She was thrilled! LOL! Kids like that make me have faith.....
