When I groom my English Angoras they sometimes start digging frantically on my lap and chest. I'm not sure if they are trying to dig their way to freedom or what. When it happens I try to be more gentle with the brush, or I'll start working on a new area so they won't hurt, in case that was the problem. What do you think is going on?

Some buns just like to dig, especially at clothes. I know a bun who digs at his owner's shirt every time he's put on his owner's chest. We joke that the bun is trying to dig to his heart :p

It can mean different things. Hazel likes to dig like that sometimes, mostly when she's in a happy, playful mood.
White Chocolate on the other hand used it to show us she was done being petted, and wanted down. If we didn't "listen" to her, she'd start nipping.

I think you just diagnosed my bun Baxters! couch digging! I will nose rub him for 20 - 30 minutes when I come home from work and then he just "has at" that couch; I think he's trying to tell me he's done with petting and wanting to move on but does not know how to say it? Well he is male - and most (male human, dog, cat) I've found do not communicate well :D

Thanks for posting that - love this Site!

Ha, my rabbit used to do that. My family would hold him on the couch, and if you stopped petting him, he would start digging. I think it was out of boredom. Sometimes he did that inside his cage too, frantically digging at the plastic part. He grew out of of it, I haven't seen him do that in years.
