I found a place nearish to my home that has bales of timothy hay. I thought the price was a bit steep compared to the under $10 others were getting them for but since it was an actual bale of hay I thought "okay so what" it's cheaper than the Petsmart price. The price is $24.00. Then I found out that the bale is only about 10 lbs. - which is still a better price than the Oxbow at petsmart for their 2 lb bag. However - I found a place that sells the Oxbow Timothy 50 lb box for about $69.95 + $30 for shipping. Price wise it's cheaper for the box which is 5 times bigger and including shipping it's still cheaper than getting the bags from Petsmart or from Richie's Feed & Seed here in Ottawa.

Even getting the smaller 10 lb bale would save me the trip to petsmart every 2-3 months but should I opt for the 50 lb box? That's a big amount to fork out at once.

Yup and the 2 feed stores around me don't sell hay at all.
And ALOT of farmers around me are now using silage, don't have any hay and also another thing alot fo farmers around here don't even know what hay they have...it's just hay.

Yeah I looked into them for the Teach & Treat and they don't deliver to Canada - we're always left out...(
left out?? u guys get FREE medical care!!.:wink...
most of the feed stores around me don t sell timothy hay either ..u have to shop around .try calling arabian horse ranches near u ..or the ones that have expensive horses...they all know where to get tim hay...the small equine places use bermuda or alfalfa for their horses ...dont waste ur time asking them..

i buy a 100lb bale for 24.00

What good is free if you can't get it? Waiting lists are a mile long for tests & operations. I agree it is free, but it just takes forever to get any.

As for the bales, there's a place that's kinda nearby thathas horse training, I'll have to see what kind and ask about bales.

are they really?? well that stinks...!

I have a co-worker that shows horses. She uses alfalfa, but turns out her neighbor grows timothy and orchard grass hay. She is bringing me a 60 pound bale to work tomorrow for $5! That should last a good 6 months at least.

Wow! $64 for 50lbs of hay just baffles me! That's a lot of money! I pay $5 PER bale for that amount...there's no reason Oxbow should be charging so much for hay, even if it is superiour quality.

I could get the same quality of hay, and buya years worth for that price. ;) I think you should look around for some local farmers, or go to local feed stores and ask how much they charge for 50 to 80lb bales. ;)

I say look harder. Our feed & supply store sells 100 lb bales for like $24((though it also sells the biggest Kaytee bales for $20 XD)). I'd buy it but I have nowhere to put it, I can barely store a 50 lb bale of coastal hay in my garage. :C
