Well, here's the situation. Julie and I picked up my little foster girl on Wednesday, and brought her back to my apartment. I set-up her cage and got it ready and put her in it.
Let's back up, this is how her cage is set up. It's a 47" long Prevue-Hendrix cage with a wire bottomed grate (don't yell!). I set it up with a mat under her little igloo house, and there is cardboard covering about half of it where her food and litter pan are. There is only 1/3 of the cage wire that is uncovered. Once she's litter trained, I will be fully covering up the wire bottom. If you are looking at the cage from the front (where the little door is) the litter pan is in the back left corner, her food bowl is in the front left corner, her nest is in the back right, and water is in the front right. She has a hay rack in the middle.
Now, back to the problem. Our first litter we used was the brown-ish colored Carefresh bedding. She ate that like popcorn until I took it away. I put flattened newspaper in the litter pan, and that was what she used until I was able to get some Yesterdays News from Julie. She ate the Y.N. with a happy little bun-smile on her face. I replaced it with newspaper again. Her litter pan is a small cat-box with an entrance cut into it so rabbits can hop in/out easier. She doesn't nibble the newspaper or paper shreddings (when I put them in there) but she's eaten the other two litters.
This happened with my other bun, Toby. He's on pine shaving litter (don't yell again!). It's the only litter that he would not eat! It's changed daily and is only in his litter pan. Sometimes it gets cleaned twice, but most often is once.
It's only been two days, and she's not catching onto the litter training. As of right now, she uses her litter pan as a second bed.
If anyone has any ideas on how to get her to knock it off, that would be awesome!
