I was at a country fair today with the owls and went to see the horses and there was a horse there was was 26" (gonna be 28" ful grown) and was wondering if anybody here knew what breed it would be?

Thankies ;)

Well if the horse was 26" high and going to be 28" it's a Miniature horse. My Stud, Jack, is 31". He's all wet in this picture lol.

Thanks for that!

Trailsend, do you have other mini horses? i was reading about them about a year ago, and they're soooo cool! i think i need more piccys of Jack(he's very handsome:pink iris:!)....................................:biggrin2:

We used to have three Mini's, but adopted out the other two last year. Mini horses are great little critters :)Even though Jackson is a stud, he is easier to work with than our full sized gelding and mare! He is really laid back and thinks he's a dog. He does like to try to nip bums for some reason, so you've always got to keep an eye on him! a friend of mine has about 30, and they all bring themselves into the barn at night and go into their own stalls! It's hilarious.

I have tons of pictures of Jack, and my friends mini's,but not on my laptop. I'll have to kick the other half off the desktop and share some :)

:inlove:miniature horses, Jack is adorable! They are so tiny the foals are like large puppy size, aren't they? I think this pic is so sweet:

I love miniature horses!:inlove:Once I was helping a friend out at a horse show (she was showing her coloured sport horse in-hand) and a woman thereasked me to hold her miniature horse for a few minutes why she went and got something. I was so smitten with him she had a hard time getting him back!:p

"Mom, mom...mom...wheres the food? moooooom, mom, mom? moooom? mommhyyyy? mom? wait where ya going? moooom mooom " ;)

OK, I just had to add - because both me and my mum want one (she had a horse when she was younger) - how big does they're stall need to be and about how much grazing field/TO feild do they need?

Thanks :p

Although miniature horses are small - they are still horses and should be handled like one.... that's the biggest issue where people have trouble..... they treat them like dogs. They are just big horses in a little body!

An adult mini needs a stall just like a big horse and a large area to get out and run. I would want at least a half acre for the horse alone - an acre would be best. You have all the same concerns and healthcare as a large horse which is much more than like a dog or cat. Here are some of the things you have to deal with:

  • hay all year
  • grain
  • feed supplies (buckets break, winter you need heated buckets, etc)
  • leads and halters
  • farrier fees (they have to be trimmed and need shoes if they are shown pulling a cart or something)
  • yearly vaccinations
  • yearly dental care (teeth floated)
They have to be kept at a decent temperature in the winter so you might need blankets or something like that...

Their area to live must have very secure fencing - they can slip through split rail fence, and will!

That's just the basics.

My biggest pet peeves! - I recently watched a "Its Me Or The Dog" episode and somebody said "I got a chihuahua because he is the size of a cat - so I thought he would act like one" :grumpy:

Thanks for that :)
