Hi, I was wondering how much am I looking to spend to have a Male and a female Rabbit Fixed, I know prices vary from Vet to Vet but just would like to get a rough idea.

Also at what age should it be done?

I have a Male Mini Lop
A Male Dutch
And a Female Dutch. Thanks

Cost $60-$400, Honestly. Nobody can tell you how much to expect to pay because it really does range.
And the age its done at depends on the vets comfort level.
Boys can be done as soon as their testes drop. Girls I would wait until their ATLEAST 3 months or 2lbs. Ideal age is 6 months but if you're keeping a boy girl pair, you dont want to have to seperate them when hormones kick in so you can easily get them done around 3-4months before the female is mature enough, even though the boy could be ready at 2.5 months. Then they can recover together as well. If the vet can do the procedure on young small animals then go for it.

Prices vary all over. Nothing set in stone.

My suggestion is to call around and find a Rabbit Savvy Vet to neuter or spay. I've had two males at 4-1/2 months old done and it cost be $338.00 for both. Was worth every penny. Dr. Joe took really good care of them and so did the staff. They came out of the whole thing with the same sweet demeanor less the testies. Pain meds for three days and they were back to their ole self.

Now I've never had a doe spayed. That's more of major surgery because of the removal of the uterus. Could be a bit more. And will be more time for recovery IMHO.

But check around. Find a Rabbit Savy Vet then make your decision. You got some good advise on what age and weight they need to be.

Mine was $400 for the female and $500 for the male. You can also try calling your local SPCA - our local SPCA does cheap neuters/spays for low income households.

Don't think we fall into the low income for the spca it would be great if they offered the service to everyone.

That is more then I thought for a rabbit, Ill check with a couple of vet's figured I d see what everyone else was paying.

Ill prob fix the males and leave the females alone.

It really depends on the vet and where you live.
Around here a spay is around $270 and neuters are around $200. Also add in the exam($50-80) and pain medication ($20).

If you live in a big city, you can try vets in the surrounding area. These vets tend to have lower overhead costs (like rent), so can change less than city vets. You do have to make sure they are rabbit savvy, but you have to do that with any vet.
