Hi all.
One day when it was one of my bunnies turn to have their play time outside the hutch, one of my males found a way to escape his new enclosure and mated with Merry. I didn't realise he had got out of his enclosure until it was time for me to go to check up on her and the others. When i walked out i saw my naughty little bugger mating with her, so i ran out and shoo'd him away but they had obviously already mated before i caught them, because i woke up yesterday to find 7 little bubs.
I was hoping that she didn't fall pregnant because i wasn't planning on breeding them and so i was somewhat unprepared for this. I had done a lot of research in the past because i did hope to take up breeding as a hobby one day, but not this soon so i do have some knowledge through research, but not through hands on experience.
The only thing that baffles me is the fact that it was almost 2 months ago when she mated with Gimli... i thought they give birth in about 30 days. Which is why i was surprised to see babies in her nest because it has been far more than a month, and he hasn't been able escape since the first time so he can't have mated with her again.
I'm trying not to interfere with her and the babies too much, i just check up on them every few hours, feel around in the nest to make sure they're all still alive. I have taken them out to have a look at them and some of them have scratches on them. I've cut Merry's nails as i assume it was her that accidentally scratched them. But i am worried about 1 of them, he has a big scab on his back area and it looks like his foot is going to be deformed and i think it might be because of the scratch, im not sure.
Any advice you could give in terms of giving them all the best chance of survival would be greatly appreciated. 1 had already died i think because it was exposed to the cold. It had managed to wriggle its way to the entrance of the room in the hutch which is where i found it lifeless. There are 6 more. 3 are big and fat, 2 aren't as big and fat but i think they still look ok, then there's the one with the bigger scab (which looks like it healed quick) that might have a deformed foot. He's also MUCH smaller than the others, not quite half their size but still much smaller.
Ugh i am very anxious and am praying they all survive.
EDIT: I added a pic which was the best one i could get so far. They just would not stop wriggling and they're already digging! So all the pics i took came out blurred with movement, this was the least blurred of them all. I don't know if this is a good enough pic for anyone to tell how healthy they look?
EDIT2: I just took pics of them in the nest so they weren't wriggling about as much, hopefully these are a little better.
