Yup, I start my job today! :biggrin2: A whopping $9.21 an hour, but hey, you gotta start somewhere!

I don't even know which floor I will be on. Both have their perks. Normal/Long Term Care floor remember who you are, and you don't have to change as many Depends. Memory Care floor residents don't care who you are, and can be quite funny. You don't have to worry about offending them, either. They'll forget in a day or so. Bad way to look at it, but if you have to deal with it, you need to look on the positives.

My work first shift, which is 6:30AM - 2:30PM. It won't be too bad, I hope. I thought the shift was 8AM-4PM for whatever reason. Now, I will be able to come on the forum anyways! When school starts on the 20th, I will have Tuesdays and Thursdays off because they can't split shifts. Sweet! I'll be able to get on RO at least two days a week!

Woohoo!

I'm off to go change some adult-diapers and dodge bedpans! Talk to you all later! Hopefully, my mood is still as chipper as it is now! :p

No stories yet...?!!!!

If you are on a floor where the folks are "with it," try talking to some of the ladies to find out how their childhoods were. They have such great stories, and some will actually have "firsts" in their lives. I met a woman who was hired as the first factory worker in town, when the men were sent to war.

myheart

I'm on the memory care floor, so no one is "with it". Some of them remember things better, but they still tell their whole life stories to you while you are getting them washed up. I had one lady tell me about her farm at least four times today... and how her son, daughter, husband, father, mother, siblings, etc. died. :?

lol .... Do you think you will be hearing the stories again tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that,...? :?

My sister went to school to become a CNA. She passed all of the coursework, but couldn't make it through one day of on-the-job-training because of the...um...smells. She said it was a combination of that hospital-smell, and other not-nice smells.

I felt so bad for her because she really wanted to succeed at this.

It has made me realize that I don't want to be a nurse! lol I am going back to school for phlebotomy. I am quitting my part-time job before I start because I already know that it is going to suck. ;)

EDIT: I just got "terminated" from the other job. I called in to quit, and they "fired" me. They did not offer any insurance to cover me if anything happened to a client under my care. So, the family could sue me, and the company would not cover it. Screw that. It was only 3 hours a week, $9.25 an hour. That's not even worth it. Jerks.

James had his CNA license too and just hated the nursing home training. Working in the independant living home was ok, but he likes working with developmentally disabled people so much more. They're usually happy. It makes a big difference.

If you're training in phlebotomy, check out the Wisconsin Blood Center for jobs when you're done. I used to work in the lab at the headquarters by Marquette University and I really liked working for them. I just hate Milwaukee. But it was a great company to work for and they're almost always looking for phlebotomists for their clinics. They also have a research center at the medical college in Waukesha.:)

Ooo, I will have to look that up when I am done... In a year or so! :p I hate Milwaukee, too. I like where my grandparents lives (Bay View) but I don't like the night sky never getting dark. I don't like that about Waukesha, either. I grew up in Oconomowoc, and there were NO streetlights. It was DARK and I loved it!

But for now... I'm off to see the old-folks, the wonderful old-folks of Oz... :idea
