So, MoMo, her kids and I are headed out for her first ARBA show. Her mom and dad are champions so I won't lie- I am hopeful for some ribbons :D

Anyway- she is blowing her baby coat (she's a chinchilla mini-lop- just 5 months old) and she's quite two toned still. I've been brushing her with a standard double sided brush, bristle on one side and prongs on the other. It's helped a little but is there a better tool I could be using to help this process along? I need a good bunny grooming tool, anyway. Any other spruce up my bunn tips I could use? I'm going to trim her nails tomorrow- ehhh. I hate doing that.

Do you think her two toned look will reduce her chances of placing? I mean, I would assume other bunns in her age bracket will also be losing their baby coats- plus it's finally spring here in Western Washington and every animal I own is blowing their winter coat.

We're so excited :biggrin2::pray::D I'll take any and all advice!!!

What is her weight? You will get negative comments on a baby coat. Wet your hands and keep working through her coat it takes a lot of the hair off that is loose. I quickly run dry hands over my rabbits every day at feeding time and get a lot of the loose hair out.

I don't know her name, but assuming it's the bunny who has kits, don't be disapointed that she will get negative condition marks just because kits are hard on a doe. And mini lops are EXTREMELY competitive. I'm not trying to sound rude, but, being your first show with a very competitive breed don't let bad placing discourage you in the future.

By kids, I meant my children, our family, not baby buns:D She's too young to breed just yet. I have been running my fingers and nails over her body and kind of loosening the hair with massage, then brushing it away but it's just taking forever, she's been "turning colors" for two weeks :( My breeder though for sure she'd be done by Saturday but even with regular brushing it just isn't happening that quickly :(

I'll try the wet fingers and see if that speeds it up at all, thanks for that tip.

Do you also have a shop vac? They can also blow air out, I don't have a blower for my Fuzzies so in emergencies I use the shop vac lol. You would have to hold her with one hand and hold the hose with the other. It helps a bit to get the hair out.

And if you have a fine tooth human comb, it'll help getting hair out too. The finer bristles is what will grab and hold the hair to the comb.

in the end it wont hurt THAT bad on the show table with her still shedding.

How exciting!!!! Just have fun and learn as the learning never ends:)

My Flemmie "Thor" has his first show this Saturday too. I am very excited to hear what the judges think of him.

Woooohooooo!!!!

AWWW. My first Dutch rabbit I got I namer her MoMo, after the lemur from my favorite show

We're very excited. I just cleaned her bottom with a moist cloth, brushed her out again and trimmed her nails. I clipped a quik :( All in all though, she's looking mighty spruced up :bunny19

Good luck but I hope you don't get discouraged if you get a bad placing. Best of variety might be in your future but usually young seniors win although last show I went to had a junior holland with best of breed she was an awesome baby
