when we got frank we first got him one of those “my first home!” bunny kits? the lady told us it was a good size for him and blah blah blah, its the white and blue one up top. it wasnt the right size. he couldnt really stand up in it, and after putting his bowls and litter box in it, he could lay down but not fully stretch out. & even though hes out of his cage like all day when we are home and only in it if im in school/perrys at work or over night when we are sleeping I felt bad having have such a small little home.

so we decided to make him a new one! I followed different set-ups i had seen online of other peoples C&C cages and decided to try it out. we got the cubes at walmart. it only took two packs and we have enough left over that we use them to block off certain areas (like little gates). and we made the cage 2x3x2. its tall enough he gets a second level and in the lower level can full stand up and its long enough both ways he can stretch out completely.

we got the cardboard project boards (the one you used in 5th grade for the science fair presentation.. or atleast the ones i did..) and got stick on tile flooring for cheap at the hardware store and put that ontop for his lower level flooring. its got a grip on it so he can hop around without sliding and its suepr easy to clean up. the second level is the cube wire with cardboard, a layer of news paper, and a fleece blanket i had laying around so hes got a soft area up top. then he has his food bowl, his hay manger/holder cube thing (in the picture its a bowl but i changed it since taking it) and his water bottle (he has a bowl too because he hasnt totally grasped the bottle idea so i want him to be able to get water while he figures that out). then it also has his litter box, a small bed so he has a soft area to sleep on the first floor. and then of course all his plenty of toys and chew things.

oh, and perry (my boyfriend) christmased it out with lights and a stocking.

so far he loves it :)
also** right now there is not ramp/stairs to the second level because i think he thinks hes a professional jumper and jumps everywhere so i didnt feel a need, but i may add a ramp or step later incase he has lazy days

oh and its 3x the size of his old one and costed half the price.

im overly proud with it. first cage----http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_medvanvjE41rl0knbo2_1280.jpg

great cage! NIC beats store-bought hands down :D

one thing, though... you might not want to have lights on the part of the top of the cage that's over the second level, as he'll be able to reach up and chew at the cord if he feels inclined.

so far he hasnt paid any attention to them, most of them are too high to get to anyway except a small part where its over the second level. i dont think hes discovered them but once he does we can just move them off the second level part. thanks though! :)

Great Cage, lots of room.

Is it really sturdy? I use dowels in my cages. I find they are much sturdier.

yea definitely its super sturdy actually, i wasnt expecting it to be. i was prepared to go buy some dowels for support areas and it didnt need them :) i have the zipties crossed on all the joints and it really helps it out :) thank you!

yeah, that was the only little area where I was concerned about them. most bunnies have a thing with chewing cords.

LOL I love how you have the *My Super Pet: Frank* on the cage.... I also did that when I built my NIC cage, probably the only thing from the store bought cage that I kept. Looks good though.

yea he still doesnt mess with them at all :) ! hes pretty good with cords actually. we have all of the cords in the living room (where he is out most of the time) covered with those tube covers and the tv area is blocked off. the only cord he has ever shown interest in is my boyfriends head phones. lol
