Ive been trying to breed my 2 californians. I take my female to my males pen and they end up fighting. They do mount but only for about 2 minutes before the female starts attacking the male. He is young and has never had a litter before and the female has had a few that i know of. Every time theyve been put together my buck ends up bleeding from his face and last time my female got her foot stuck in a cage and sat there squealing asi tried to gether unstuck.I want to breed rabbits because i like raising them but not if it means hurting the rabbits i DO own. Help?

Hopefully at TF or a mod will move this to the Rabbitry & Showroom where you'll get more help.

Are you taking the doe to the buck's cage?
Maybe even try taking them to a table where the territory is neutral, and if they are still fighting, I would give the buck a little more time to mature, and the doe some time to cool off. ;)

Yes ive been moving the doe to the bucks cage. The bucks is around 7 or 8 months old. When i just let them out into the floor of my rabbit stall they both just explore and dont do anything =/

I know this is a stupid question and I don't want to hurt your feelings but are you sure you have a buck and a doe? A buck with a split penis can look very much like a doe when they are sexed young and that would explain the fighting.

I would swap cages with the buck and doe for the night and table breed them the next day so you can control the process.

Good Luck

When my does run around the cages and dont let the males breed i will sometimes help the boy out by holding onto the girl. Not cradling. More like putting my hand over her face with my right hand and either pushing up on her rear or laying her flatter like a himalayan with the left. I would not recommend this if she is biting at you. You could get hurt.

You might want to move her next to a bunch of bucks so she will get more in the mood. And you can check to see if she is ready, kinda the same way you sex a bunny. Light pink means she not and red or dark pink means breed me now.
We dont usually have to use this much but californian does can be very moody. Just be careful in whatever you try

She may simply not be receptive. Tryrestrainingher with a hand over her head so she doesn't attack the buck, and if she's very aggressive, remove her from the cage and continue trying daily.
