I am learning to knit, so do I count? I have 6 classes to try and learn. The teacher is from Scotland and she said that in order to graduate, the girls had to know how to knit and how to iron everything, including socks, sheets and underwear!:scared: The boys had to learn metal and woodworking skills. She said that she started to knit when she was 4 years old, I could not imagine my 4 year old learning how to knit right now. Hopefully by the time I am done with the class, and after I have knitted a few things, I want to teach my girls how to knit when they get older.

A lot of young children have very good manual dexterity, surprisingly good. I have been sewing by hand since I was about 3 years old. Some of the stuff I did at 6, I could have sworn I did it when I was older. I started with larger blunter needles and cloth that was easy to push the needle through, and worked my way up. Now I make dance costumes, regular clothes, and graduation dresses.

You should give it a try teaching your daughter how to knit, you would just have to find some knitting needles that would be easy for her to hold, a little wider and shorter.

In Montessori schools, all children learn practical life skills asap. Things like pouring, spooning, working with "dressing frames" (buttons, zippers, laces ect.), sewing, and working with screw drivers. My mother teaches a Montessori preschool, and they always do way more than I would ever expect out of a child that young.

Of course you count! How's it going?

....Knitting SHEETS?!? hoo boy! I so would not want to do that! baby blankets, OK, but sheets? Nooope :huh

Oh, no she did not knit the sheets, she had to learn how to iron everything including sheets!

I knew a little about knitting before the class but I would get to a certain point and between me trying it and looking/reading the book, well my frustration level just went through the roof!

She said by the time the class is over, we will be able to read instructions and make real clothes!
