I know I am going to have him on a timothy pellet, vegetable, and unlimited timothy hay diet.

How much pellets should he have per day?
And how much veggies should he get?
I cut veggies up and put them in a clean Cool Whip container to take them upstairs to my current buns.
Should the veggies be to the top for a Flemish? Middle? More than that container?

This is my first time having a flemish, I'd be grateful for some help on this :)

Thanks!

P.S. He's 11 lbs. :)

hmm i do free fed brome hay. i like it better cause its local grown and so no packaing or what not to deal wit or worry about.

then i do about 1/2-1 cup of food daily, depends how much he begs and if the cat eats his food -.-

i only do veggies once a week with my flemmie and its only a small bit cause he gets diereha from to much. so you just need to find a balance.

My 8 week old Flemmies are free fed, their dish is like the size and height of a pie tin. It's filled, they eat all of that plus they get fresh grass & clover everyday, aswell as unlimited hay. My two eat alot. :D

Up to about 18 months of age, I free-feed my flemish as they are still growing.

But since yours is an adult - I lean towards 1/2 - 3/4 cup of pellets -depending upon his needs. I'd start with 1/2 cup and see if that is enough. If he doesn't eat it all - decrease it to 1/3 cup and if he needs a bit more - then add a bit more.

As far as veggies - check with the shelter first to see what he's used to and if he's not used to them - I'd slowly introduce them - like one veggie at a time.

I want to say that the rule of thumb is 1 cup of veggies per 4 pounds of body weight but I could be wrong on that....someone else who does salads more often than I do will know better.

Thanks everyone :)
I'll ask the Humane Society when we pick him up today if they even fed him veggies... and which ones if they did.

I set his bowl in his litterbox, filled with 1/2 a cup of pellets, and hay all next to it (to litter-train him), all ready for when he arrives :)
I hope he does good with veggies, I love giving my buns veggies :)

Peg, introducing him to veggies... would I like.. for example, romaine, how mch would I give him to get used to, and would I add the next veggie the next day, or a couple days after the romaine?

I hope that made sense. :lookaround

How many cups are in a cool whip container?
Does anyone know? XD
Cause all together, I usually fill the cool whip container almost to the top with veggies for Solara and Sabriel together.

When introducing veggies start of with a bit of romaine lettuce. Just give him a small amount of it and then the next morning increase the amount you gave before slighly. Then just keep increasing it untill you have the amount you want to feed him.
They say after 24 hours you can then feed a differenty type of veggie. Within 24 hours of feeding a new type watch out for loose stools or other unusual behaviour.
