We got home from our weekend trip early this afternoon. The bunnies were acting normal until about an hour after we got back. Junie started tearing off pieces of the paper we have on her top level and bringing them down to a corner on the bottom level of her cage. She's been doing this for about an hour now. It's looking more and more like a nest. Could this be a false pregnancy? She's not spayed (yet...her appointment for that is this Tuesday, 4/17!). Anything specific we should do or should we just let her do her thing?

I took a video of the crazy bun:

And she's been falling over while trying to tear paper. It's a little hilarious:

How adorable! Definitely sounds like a false pregnancy to me. Before I got my Californian Ferkel spayed she had one. She interacted with a new (fixed) male and after he left she dug a giant hole in the middle of the yard and ran around gathering grass and twigs from all over and layered them in the nest. This went on for a day or so until I filled in the hole. It's awfully entertaining watching them do this.

Certainly looks like Junie is nesting. She's practicing. They all do that when they get to a certain age and not spayed.

Cute videos.

Late last night before we went to bed, we could see that Junie had started pulling fur. I also noticed she hadn't been eating very much and her poops were teeny tiny.

This morning was the same story and I was getting worried. I know if bunnies don't eat their digestive system gets all out of whack and she's supposed to be spayed tomorrow! I had to go to work, but I asked hubby to call the vet and ask about what to do. They told him that if she hadn't been eating properly they probably wouldn't do the surgery. But they told him to bring Junie in today so they could monitor her food intake and if she was ready for surgery tomorrow, they'd do it. If not, we could pick her up and reschedule. They're letting us keep her there tonight at no extra charge (!), so hubby took her in this afternoon.

Hopefully a change of environment will stop the nesting and she'll begin eating again! I'll let you know what's happening tomorrow.

The vet called earlier this afternoon and said they had given her some protein-rich fluids yesterday and she had eaten lots of hay. She was pooping okay, so they went ahead with the surgery. He said she was awake and seemed to be doing okay so far :) They'll keep her until Thursday and if everything looks good, we can pick her up.

Glad to hear Junie's surgery went well. Hoping all goes well and she's home with you and Mumford in no time!

Junie's home again! The surgery went well and she's back in a smaller cage (for now). She's hoping around and eating and seems like her regular self (even some digging, haha). Hopefully she'll be all healed up quickly and she can get back to her regular NIC cage.

So glad Junie is home and all went well. Hopefully the digging is only a residual of the hormones and she can eventually not have to feel she needs to nest. But then again, she might like to do that for exercise. lol Only time will tell. Truly glad everything went smoothly for Junie.
