Hey everyone,So I have added a couple of booksand magazines to my rabbit info collection and when I went to the vet Ijust had to ask him HOW MUCH we are suppossed to feed our little boys.In all three magazines and two books they state differet amountsranging from as much as the rabbits want to as little as 1/3 of a cupper rabbit per day (this is all of pellets, sorry). Any way the vetrecommended giving them the last answer and I remember on here mostpeople recommended 1/4 per rabbit twice a day. Is that right? In onebook it said growing rabbits under 6 months should get an unlimitedamount of pellets and lots, and lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, andhay. That seems like alot of food doesnt it?Well I'm sure this post isgetting a bit hard for some to read so I will end with that. Justwanted to know if we are giving enough or not enough to our growing newkids:)~Erin~

I like how the HRS breaks it down for feeding rabbits.

I don't follow it exactly- it's easily tweaked for the individualrabbit. Mocha and Loki get much more pellets than recommendedand are still thin, active, and happy. In fact, Mocha getsreally skinny if I cut back her pellets any more. Fey andSprite get almost no pellets and only a little veggies because they arerecovering from the horrid pellets their previous owner fedthem. Any more than that and it's oversized soft pooeverywhere.

Keep in mind that some of the "pet store" pet books were often eitherwritten a long time ago and just republished often or were written bypeople who don't really know much about rabbits. One book inparticular, I think it was called Hop to it, was written bysomeone who had one pet rabbit for only a year or two before writingthe book! There have been a lot of changes in the way petrabbits are cared for in the last 10 years or so. In myopinion, the best books are The House Rabbit Handbook, TheHouse Rabbit Primer, and Rabbit Health in the 21st Century.

I reccomend rabbits that are still growing toget as much feed as they want untill they are six months old or untillthey are fully grown.I give my netherlands 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup of food.but they rarely get treats. My dutch get 1/2 cup.bluebird
